Meursault Charmes

2007 Meursault Charmes

Medium-pale lemon yellow. Likewise the nose has lemon and lime aromas above a core of spiced bread. Wide, mouthfilling then a real burst of interest in the mid-palate – an extra creamy dimension – all borne on lovely acidity. Very lovely and, if I might say, with a level of energy that’s quite un-Charmes like – probably why I bought this one!

Aromatic width and some density. Likewise there is a depth and density to the palate that is beautifully balanced by the acidity. Lovely penetrating intensity into the finish.

One of the most concentrated wines in 2008 and raised in 50% new oak. Some floral and savoury aspect but with (again) a little agrumes. To start with this is only about extract of flavour but slowly the acidity takes over. Lots of flavour in the finish – this is really super.

Pale colour. A wide and impressive nose – precise and fine. An excellent dovetailing of acidity and concentration. Super length and then a small reprise to the flavours too – superb Charmes.

A high-toned, floral nose. The fruit on your tongue seems yellower in aspect and shows an almost tannic edge. Lingering flavour and perfect freshness – a super finish. I think this is one of a number of beautiful ‘Charmes’ from the vintage – I like it very much.

More depth and density, fruit-driven aromas. Wider and more concentrated, silky yet without apparent fat. Really lovely mid-palate intensity and long finishing. Again, really super.

Medium yellow. A more intense core of fucused fruit on the nose. There is an extra layer of fat on the texture and it’s not lacking acidity. It needs a little more mid-palate dimension but it’s far from ponderous and there’s good length too.

Only in bottle for one week. The nose is rather tight. In the mouth it manages to be concentrated without excess fat and shows an obvious extra dimension of flavour in the mid-palate that also seeps into the finish. Super.
