Dubreuil-Fontaine

2007 Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand Vergelesses Ile des Vergelesses

By billn on April 08, 2011

A complex nose, a little floral, more depth than the Beaune and with a musky ring around the fruit – lots of character here. Full and round, the tannin has a little more volume but is quite fine leaving a faint astringency. A caramel note suffuses the finish. Just so much to enjoy here – more for my cellar.

2007 Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille

There is more aromatic density vs. the villages Pernand. Rounder with excellent texture, more complexity and super length. Looking at the price, what’s not to like(?)

2007 Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses Clos Berthet

The nose offers herbs and a slightly warm core of fruit. Full again but really open and right at the end there’s more length than the Sous Frétile.

Nice to fine a wine with a red-fruited nose in this vintage. In the mouth even if it’s not so deep there is good width and a lovely flavour in the mid-palate. Balanced and with a good finish.

Warm red fruit with some herbs. There’s a creamy width to the fruit before you move through plenty of velvet tannin. Beautiful complexity – stunning wine, just wait 6-12 months for the tannin to settle – I will!

2008 Dubreuil-Fontaine Aloxe-Corton Les Vercots

Bright and precise dark berries on the nose. A little more impact and width on the palate after the Ille des Vergelesses, certainly more power, but not the deft complexity. Very good all the same!

2006 Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses Clos Berthet

The 1.5 hectare Clos is surrounded by a wall and is a monopole of the domaine. It is planted with 1 hectare of chardonnay that is classed as a 1er cru and 0.5 hectares of pinot noir that is only classed as a villages as there’s no AOC for red 1er here. The vines have been in the family since 1969/70 and were rented by them even before that, and the average age is about 40 years. Christine says that this wine is more mineral than the ‘Sous Frétille’ and, hence, more typical of white Pernand-Vergelesses. There is an intense core of fruit on the nose that is also reflect on the palate. Perhaps a little riper than the ‘Sous Frétille’ but it shows a lovely minerality in the mid-palate. A lovely wine.

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose goes much deeper than the ‘Clos Berthet’ and shows a darker fruit complexion. There’s much more concentration and structure here and the breath of flavour seems much wider. Again a hint of chocolate on the decent length. Very nice.

MOre compact but denser aromatics – rather impresses. There’s real depth here and the fruit has a sweeter profile. Quite understated structure but good balance. Super.
