offer of the day – clos des lambrays – 2014 vs 2015

By billn on January 24, 2017 #the market

Both arrived together in the inbox today – interestingly Allen Meadows is 94 points on the 2014, and ‘only’ 92-95 on the 2015. You could end up paying more for the one with the lowest points 🙂

2014 Clos des Lambrays
75cl 159.00 (Swiss francs)
150cl 323.00

2015 Clos des Lambrays
75cl 199.00
150cl 403.00
300cl 856.00

8% Purchase tax to be added, but these are delivered prices…

offer of the day – groffier & arlot 2015

By billn on January 17, 2017 #the market

I thought I’d add a little Chablis Les Clos in today’s late afternoon sunshine to help ease these prices through 🙂

Captioned: “And wasn’t last weeks 2014 Clos de Tart cheap!

Domaine Robert Groffier

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2015 75cl 38.00 (Swiss Francs*)
Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2015 75cl 79.00
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts Doix 2015 75cl 146.00
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2015 75cl 158.00
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2015 75cl 349.00
Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2015 75cl 349.00
Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2015 75cl 378.00

Domaine de l’Arlot

Nuits-Saint-Georges Mont des Oiseaux 1er Cru 2015 75cl 59.00
Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de l’Arlot 1er Cru 2015 75cl 79.00
Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos Forêts St-Georges 1er Cru 2015 75cl 79.00
Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru 2015 75cl 109.00
Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2015 75cl 445.00

This really IS 2015 for you, and will it all sell? Well probably the most expensive will sell, but I have my doubts about the full ranges. Clearly the end for the traditional enthusiasts’ RSVs and even Amoureuses seems to be at hand, but if I may offer just one piece of advice – 38 swiss franc bourgognes? Just say no!

*Note that 8% sales tax is also due, but delivery cost is included…

all change at chanson père et fils…

By billn on January 16, 2017 #producer update#the market

And my quick translation for you:

Gilles de Courcel has been at the helm of Domaine Chanson Père & Fils in Beaune, for 14 years. He’s now moving aside for Vincent Avenel, who has been working as Chanson’s commercial manager since last May. Vincent was hired by Gilles together with the head of Bollinger, the owners of Chanson since 1999, Etienne Bizot. I’m assuming there’s no change for Jean Pierre Confuron…

offer of the day – 2014 clos de tart

By billn on January 09, 2017 #the market

The last offer from my Swiss merchant (that I have notes for) was 2009, and the jump to 2014 is not very big in the context of the current market – maybe there was market push-back on their recent pricing? Of-course I’d be much more interested in what the 2015 will be ‘going for!’

CLOS DE TART 2014

CLOS DE TART Grand Cru 2014 75cl 324.00 (2009=298.00 Swiss francs)
CLOS DE TART Grand Cru 2014 150cl 678.00 (626.00)
CLOS DE TART Grand Cru 2014 300cl 1,424 (not offered)

For anyone looking for cold comfort, that’s the cheapest Montrachet that I’ve seen for a while 🙂
Actually I see value in a number of these wines – even if not the Montrachet! – at least relative to many other producers…

Union des Maisons de Vins de Grande Bourgogne (UMVGB)

By billn on December 18, 2016 #the market

documentCommuniqué de Presse – Fusion UMVB-UMVBM-1
The biggest news of last week was the fusion of the professional bodies for both northern and southern burgundy producers – the mythical ‘Greater Burgundy.’

It is of-course, politically speaking, long overdue, yet at the producer level, there is pitiful interaction or interest for (for instance) a producer in Gevrey-Chambertin and a producer of Beaujolais Villages working together. The producers in the south will now, however, be allowed to use some (Bourgogne) labels that were previously withheld. Let’s see what extra meat on the bone will appear – post announcement…
