Nathalie on 2018:
We began our harvest 28 Aug. Magnificent grapes, less rain here though than Vosne or Meursault, but also not touched by hail, fortunately. Lots of north wind so the bourgogne was picked at 14.5° – we havent seen that before – it was the last parcel picked. We replanted a big part of Les Lavières this year.“

Nathalie on 2017:
This vintage we started harvesting 05 September – since we nave no ban des vendanges it seems everyone is more parcel-focused. 22mm of rain the 2nd september helped reduce hydric stress, we still used the optical triage – unlike in 2018 – not particularly because the the grapes needed it, but it’s good for blowing away leaves and insects. We have three times more grapes than in 2016. We have soft and round wines. Exceptionally the Bourgogne is in tank for a month already because we didn’t have enough barrels for the 2018s!

“The grapes were more homogenous in 2017 vs 2018 as there were no dried, grilled, grapes in 2017.

The wines…

Almost a throwback tasting here this year – it reminds me of 15 years ago when most domaines had a lot of new oak. It will fade of-course – the wines are deeply coloured and concentrated – the quality is high here for 2017, but generally I do note more oak flavours in the 2017s than was the case for the 15 and 16s. The wines from tank were well-balanced though…

2017 Chorey-lès-Beaune
6 ha brings 3 Chorey cuvees and they won’t be blended until January. Just for interest, we taste 2 separate.
Ch1 – south village harvested first day of vintage – Hmm, nice aroma, no herb, pretty red fruit. Supple, layered, nice structure some barrel, some salinity – super
Ch2 – north of the village, more clay here – A tighter but fresh red nose. Supple again, muscular, wider, lovely intensity.

2017 Chorey-lès-Beaune Piece du Chapitre
A little reductive oak. Brighter, lots of intensity, lots of energy too. Hmm, some serious side but wide and delicious finishing. Excellent.

2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Lavières
Hmm, bright a fresh. Love the energy here, layered flavour quite some direction and mouth-watering flavour. Fine structure in the the last notes. Lovely.

2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Champs Cheverey
The plants here are less fine than in Lavières, but suffer less when it’s hot and dry.
Ooh a much deeper, pure red fruit – very inviting. Supple again – the style here in 17 – lots of concentration, a touch of oak flavour from this barrel. Long this will be great – bravo

2017 Beaune 1er Clos du Roi
Also picked the first day of the harvest.
A touch of oak vibrates across the nose. Wide and like the nose there’s a freshness, a vibration of tasty flavour. Very long…

2017 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves
Also first day picked.
A little more oak on this nose. Bright, intensely flavoured if quite an oak barrel-inflected in this case. Lots of wine with beautiful fruit. Last drops are beautifully floral!

2017 Aloxe-Corton
Hmm a big nose, vivid, floral. Supple, depth of pretty fruit, of-course it depends on the luck of the barrel but this tastes great now – the oak just showing at the end of the palate.

2017 Aloxe-Corton 1er Les Vercots
15 years ago half of this vineyard was replanted with a massale selection, the old vines were pulled out between 2012-2013 and replanted in 2015. A ‘très fin’ selection, with longer clusters so the grapes touch much less so have more ventilation..
Wide and a little oaked. Hmm, lovely shape and energy, very long with plenty of oak. Delicious.

2017 Aloxe-Corton 1er Fournières
Also a deep nose with plenty of attendant oak. Oaked but energetic, depth of fine texture to the concentrated fruit. Very long.

2016 Corton Combes
This vineyard sits above the road, over Corton Vigne au Saint
Very modest almost tight nose. Starts small but grows and grows on the palate. Ooh such a great mid-palate peak of flavour – really extra – yum the freshness of a great Corton. Excellent – nearly great!

2017 Corton-Bressandes
Ooh more open and really a super depth of aroma. More structure but still open and mouth-filling. Also a peak of flavour – really intense – bravo!

The previous wines were all tasted from barrel – the following from tank:

2017 Bourgogne Rouge
A big clos of 2ha which was once classed as Chorey – it was declassified in 2006 to Bourgogne.
A bright, forward and very pretty nose. Supple, wide, growing in intensity. Excellent Bourgogne. Really a lovely depth of flavour with mouth-watering sucrosity. Faint oak – of course!

2017 Chorey-lès-Beaune (The blend)
A tight but bright freshness of aroma. Supple, lovely texture, layers of fine fruit – hmm that’s very satisfying. Delicious wine.

Les blancs:

2017 Bourgogne Blanc
Tank since august
Hmm, vibrant nose maybe a touch of sulfur. Lots of volume, freshness, depth of flavour. A modest but nice structural shape and then a long finishing line of flavour. Delicious

2017 Corton-Charlemagne
In tank for 1 month. Next to the tree in the east, above Renardes and Clos du Roi
A more serious nose with a weight of concentration. – 3 from 5 barrels were new. – becoming more high-toned. Depth and layers of muscular Charlemagne flavour – intense in the mid and finish the shape of which reminds me of the Corton Combes.
