This was a chance to see Anne and Louis’ new tasting room – and very nice it is too!

Anne on 2015:
It’s a very pleasant vintage, with good balance. We had quite a lot of spring rain, but no frost – we harvested early in September, but of-course we had hail on the 31st August.

The wines…

We started with a couple of 2015s – the only 2015s so far in bottle – and these cuvées are bottled mainly in screw-cap – “We avoid all sorts of problems by using screw-cap” says Anne.

2015 Petit Chablis
A freshness of nose, bright and fresh in the mouth. This is beautifully mouth-watering, and with a good length. This is simply delicious!

2015 Chablis
From Beines – ‘we avoided the hail here, but not the frost, so it was a small crop.’
A fresh nose, more seashore, a faint warmth of fruit too. A ripeness of fruit on the palate, and a slowly growing, saline impression, good texture. This is longer and with some weight too.

2014 Chablis 1er Vauligneau
This cru was upgraded to a 1er in the 70s. No oak used, just stainless-steel. DIAM or screw-cap closures. A little more ‘sur-lies’ aging here.
A bigger aromatic volume and with freshness too, including some green herb notes. Beautiful in the mouth, fresh but energetic, playing and melting over the tongue – classic mouth-watering sweetness and acidity. Fine and flinty finishing. Bravo!
2014 Chablis 1er Les Fourneaux
Quite a different nose; a weight of fruit, riper but not directly notes of fruit. Joyous roundness and acidity. A more obvious sweetness of mouth-watering acidity – a slightly sweet agrumes flavour. A super finishing line of flavour. Absolutely delicious – again, bravo!
2014 Chablis 1er Vaillons
A little less aromatic volume, but some seashore. A super line here, fresher, more mineral, gorgeous intensity – just a special, wine. Do I need to say bravo again(?)!

2013 Chablis Les Clos
A nose with more density and indeed an impression of texture – some ripeness of fruit, but no obvious notes of botrytis, and no obvious oak notes from its 25% old barrels. There is some oak flavour, however, but lots of complexity, a cushioned texture, lots of ripe fruit but balanced. Not a Clos of super energy, but certainly complexity…

2011 Chablis Vaudesir
Fresh, saline, seashore. For an 11 and for my taste, this is clean and engaging. Weight of flavour, layers of flavour, this is very nicely concentrated, and a wine that I could happily enjoy, indeed devour… yum!
