Continuing my look at this domaine’s wines one year later than most:

Anne Caroline on 2023:
In 2023 we had a weird summer. Hail 12th of July – almost all of our parcels were touched – our parcels are in one place, almost – about 20% losses ‘only.’ Then we didn’t know if the grapes would sufficiently ripen – but the heatwave came – and September stayed warm for so long. For the 7-8 days of the harvest we had to adapt 07-14h00 picking and then lunch. A small team of 14 pickers and 2 basket carriers.

Anne Caroline on 2021:
All our parcels lost about 50% – of course it was because of the frost. I was actually refreshing my knowledge in the wine-school of Beaune at that time – we were in t-shirts at the end of March and the following week – for 2 nights – it froze. For a couple of weeks nothing happened as it stayed cold. It was really the beginning of May when things warmed up and the vines started growing like mad – but we had no idea how many of if any buds to remove after the frost…

The wines:

As usual, at this domaine you see the wines better after bottling – excellent wines!

In 2021 all the wines were DIAM sealed…

2021 Bourgogne Aligoté
The vines in Meursault – 3 parcels one opposite the domaine, some 90-year-old vines are going to be replanted but with chardonnay so there will be less aligoté in the future. The largest parcel, just over the RN is still about 70 years old.
Very open, airy in style. Hmm, that’s quite a juicy and direct style but detailed and complex – a fine and quite dynamic wine.

2021 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Blanc Cuvée des Ormes
3-4 parcels of older vines – 40-80 years-old. Lieu-dit en Ormeau… In 21 we used 15% new oak but not all the elevage was in barrel – 30% was tank.
More open and floral. Larger scale with just a hint of generosity but also direct in style and slowly fading in a nice way. Very tasty wine.

2021 Meursault Vieilles-Vignes
Mainly bottom of the hill locations – three parcels again; Tessons, Pell Dessous and Les Forges. This is the last vintage with some vines in Forges that will be replanted.
A sweeter and faintly spiced aromatic. Wide, seamlessly silky texture. More intensity but with and extra balancing softness. The finish is elegant and clearly longer than the Bourgogne.

2021 Meursault Le Limozin
In the corner of the vineyard between the bottom parts of Genevrières and Charmes 1er Crus.
More spiced – only slowly adding some extra floral accents. Sleek, direct, more obviously ginger-bread spice in the flavour – growing wider over the palate. Intense yet still calm – slowly growing finishing waves over the palate. Just delicious in the direct style of 2021… Excellent!

A little rouge
85% white made at this domaine, but:

2021 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir
Also vines in Meursault but direction Volnay.
Light colour. Not a wide or powerful nose but one of airy red berries and plenty of floral accents too. A mineral, almost juicy red fruit. I like the fine texture here – a tasty wine of ease and freshness.

2021 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Beaumonts
A hint more colour but still only just medium colour. This red fruit is deeper and more plump. Hmm, this is less direct. More mouth-filling, finer balanced – rounder but still a wine of transparency and freshness – it’s also delicious.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
