Stéphanie on 2023:
“In 23 we had quality and quantity – 50 hl/ha – the wines are round and fruity – and that was no chaptalisation. But the malos are long – our cuvéerie is still cold, I opened the doors at the weekend as the weather was warm but it’s cold again now – I’d planned some bottling in July but maybe they won’t be ready for that…”

Stéphanie on 2022:
“22 brought a bit less volume than 23 – closer to 40-45 hl/ha – and it’s a lovely vintage. There’s more alcohol, more sun and more tannin than the 23s…”

The wines…

Large scale, delicious wines from Stéphanie in 2022 !!

2022 Bourgogne Rosé Le Peché Gourmand
Vines in Irancy but classed as Bourgogne ‘so I make a rosé with that.’
Hmm, a small salinity on this nose. Hmm, that has volume and a nice streak of balancing acidity. The fruit is forward and the finish delicious – don’t wait for the sun to drink this !!

“The following were mainly bottled in July to make space for the coming vintage. They remind me of 2020 but that vintage had a lower rendement:”

2022 Irancy La cerise sur le coteau
Lots of different parcels, mainly in the commune of Cravant – all hand harvested, destemmed with some pigeage until fermentation starts and then elevage only in tank.
Lots of colour. Ooh – deep, almost luxurious dark cherry fruit. The flavour is large in scale with plenty of tannin and the dark chocolate bitters that come from those tannins but texturally you hardly note the tannin itself. Give this two years to settle in the cellar – it will certainly be an easier drink then but such great, full flavour here.

2022 Irancy La Comme
From the bottom of the Mazelots hill, and further below Comme is Paradis. It’s mainly young vines but a large parcel with a little césar in the mix.
A nose with a little dark chocolate, but a depth a slightly cushioned fruit too. Fresh, lovely energy, a fine fluidity here – a hint of bitters but much less than in the ‘Cerise’. The finish growing wider, still dark fruited – tons of material, tons of flavour – that’s excellent but wait a couple of years again…

2022 Irancy Cailles
One of the whitest and stoniest soils in Irancy. ‘This a very young vine and chosen for its low rendement but it’s rich in this vintage’ no cesar here as it’s prone to frost, the cesar is normally planted higher on the hill.
Full colour again. A dark width of aroma slowly opens in the glass. Hmm – this is open though, with good fluidity for the concentration, framed with a fine slightly dry tannin. Hmm, lovely finishing intensity – almost an acidulated fruit in this finish. This is very classy and less obviously needing time in the cellar than the previous wines – I won’t say ‘elegant’ in this vintage – but more elegant…

2022 Irancy Côte du Moutier
Plain south facing – ‘it’s the smaller brother of Les Mazelots – formerly owned by the Abbay of St.Etienne d’Auxerre. Here with plenty of césar in the blend ‘it’s a cousin of Nebbiolo’.
Almost a peppery spice to this dark fruit nose – but air brings a little extra width. Hmm – that’s so large in the mouth – cool fruited but the frame of tannin is larger here, the finish clean, chocolatey again and only very slow fading. I find this excellent…
