Laurent on 2020:
53 hl/ha – so it wasn’t bad. We had really good maturity, and we even had 75% of a normal harvest in 2021 and always dry grapes so happy with that. All the 2020 cuvées are bottled – usually it’s about 9-10 months of elevage here.

The wines…

Always an excellent address but these 2020s are next-level – there are a number of great wines that are worth a special search!

NDtec corks and inert atmosphere bottling:

2020 Petit Chablis
All Maligny – the domaine just has 0.3 ha in Villy. The Portlandian limestone here has much bigger fossilised mussels vs the tiny shellfish that are classic in the Kimmerigian.
That’s a got a nicely direct character – mineral, lovely! Hmm, that has a nicely direct style too – a lovely, mouth-watering, citrus impression. Mineral with a little citrus bitters to finish. Top PC.

2020 Chablis
Lovely vibrant aromatics again – fine minerality again too. Great attack, incisive, juicy again – that’s another really great wine. Super, refreshing, Chablis – not the longest but absolutely delicious.

2020 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
This is the oaked cuvée
Round, forward, clearly oaked. Lovely energy again – vibrant, extra salinity. The balance is super – I wouldn’t hesitate in waiting for 3-4 years to drink this as the oak is very obvious – but the wine is a beauty!

2020 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
That’s a nice line of aroma again – properly vibrant and mineral – almost a little noble reduction. Some sweetness cushions the incisive start of this – growing in size in the mouth. Broad in the finishing flavours – wide finishing ripples of flavour. That’s excellent.

2020 Chablis 1er Homme-Mort
‘Always ready before the Fourchaume – it has a different finesse’
An even finer width of aroma – mineral, a suggestion of elegance too. Cooler, a cascade of citus and mineral flavour. Complex, great wine.
2020 Chablis 1er Homme-Mort Vieilles-Vignes
VV the sub-text for barrel elevage here today.
Exuberant aromatics again, plenty of oak but this has been more absorbed by the wine at this stage of development. Gorgeous in the mouth – clarity, purity, – I would say a fluid style to these flavours. That’s a great wine. Wait 2-3 years – or possibly as long as you like.
2020 Chablis 1er Fourchaume L’Art Diller
900 bottles from the concrete egg – in this case, the diamond version though there’s no difference inside. L’artdiller is the first part of Fourchaume – cold, and lots of clay – from Maligny. ‘Without the egg, I think it a very strict place’
That’s a very nicely perfumed nose – not full-power – but a lovely floral accent is included. Beautiful in the mouth – more direct than wide – but it has both – always fluid, beautifully mouth-watering. There’s a generosity here but in a mouth-watering and very elegant style. Hauntingly long – the texture, a small grain, holding longest. Bravo!
