Marine on 2023:
Oh yes! Quantity and quality !! Maybe both are better than in 2022 – let’s see.

Marine on 2022:
It was definitely more volume than in 2021! We have some rounder wines than in 2021 too. We started harvesting earlier than we really wanted to, as there was a small hailstorm – less than 10% losses but we worried about rot in this area so we went early. By 14 August 2023 all were bottled too – as we needed the space for the 23s 😊 Round, wines a little like 2009. I think the evolution is good – I don’t think they are wines for long keeping but because the wines taste good already, that’s fine…

The wines…

As every year classy wines from this address…

Since 2009 with DIAM for the Petit Chablis and since 2014 it has been used for all their cuvées:

2022 Petit Chablis
Next to Montmains a bit more than a hectare close to Butteaux. It’s that last of the stock – ‘There will be none in April that’s sure!’
A quiet nose, even a little small. A nice start to this wine – cool, almost juicily growing in intensity – a small finishing salinity to remind you of where it comes from. Lovely wine.

2022 Chablis
Also a smaller nose but still with some incisive character – it’s an invitation. More mineral and cool – I find this properly mineral, concentrated and deliciously tasty – I think it’s a super wine.

2022 Chablis 1er Côte de Cuissey
Vines in Courgis.
A little more direct – a vibration of energy to this yellow citrus nose. Also a lovely, cool, mineral wine – growing in both width and intensity of flavour. Slowly, slowly – but slowly! – fading. I love that finish.

2022 Chablis 1er Vaillons
Just a little extra aromatic width here. Extra mineral again – not an easy, sweet, Vaillons here – there’s a hint of appealing strictness to this – but still with more elegance and a melting width of finishing flavour. I like!!

2022 Chablis 1er Mont de Milieu
Another modest volume of aroma but here is fine precision and direction – mainly yellow citrus. Cool, larger scale flavours that are very silky – this is a super wine. Supple, concentrated – only begrudgingly offering some finishing flavour – but it’s persistent. This will be a super wine – but I’d give it a couple of years in the cellar to unwind…

2022 Chablis 1er Montmains
Have a new small parcel for this 2024 vintage – real montmains – it’s Butteaux and Forets normally.
A more airy width of aroma. Incisive, cool flavour. Waves of intensity lapping over the palate, slowly fading into the distance – love it!

2022 Chablis 1er Montmains Vieilles-Vignes
From 60-year-old vines, in Butteaux.
A narrower nose but also a little more saline. Larger in scale – a wine with a hint more architecture to it – slowly mouth-watering. Slowly fading – you will find more energy in the previous today but today it’s more about concentration. It will be super – but maybe in 5 years…
