“Regarding yields, the sectors were irregular; the Vaillons valley was okay, but others were lower. Premiers Crus were bottled about July.”
Not really an address to discuss ‘vintage issues’ because, as-per-usual, everything went fine here!
The wines…
The small ‘tasting-glasses’ didn’t help the aromas, but overall ‘okay’ to ‘very good’ wines….
2013 Petit Chablis
A clean, pretty nose. Plenty of flavour and roundness, but this needs a little more cut. But I have to say, there’s delicious, slightly floral, flavour.
2013 Chablis
The largest part of this cuvee comes from the Vaillons valley plus 2 sectors within Chiché
A little tight, but with a deep, ripe core of fruit. Wide in the mouth, and with very good freshness too. Good mid-palate dimension of flavour. I find this pretty good, also lacking a little cut, but the wines are close to (cool) room temperature, so…
2013 Chablis 1er Montmains
A rather ripe nose, with a faint addition of asparagus? Big and bold in the mouth, fine texture and with a good mineral base that is faintly saline. Not bad… Discreetly long…
2013 Chablis 1er Vaillons
A modest nose that slowly adds some ripe depth. Delicious flavour with classic Chablis sucrosity to go with the acidity – perhaps a slightly hard finish, but plenty of material here. Also rather long finishing.
2013 Chablis 1er Vosgros
Faint florals mix with greener herbs. More direct intensity here. Less delicious but more intense and structured – more impressive for that.
Tight, just a few green herbs to start with. Fresh and dynamic, with growing intensity and lots and lots of flavour – an excellent wine!
2013 Chablis 1er Montée de Tonnère
Wide, fresh and a little saline – but rather tight. Here is just a little richness but super concentration too – there’s a lot of wine here. Padded muscle. Quite tasty and plenty of minerality too.
