Thierry on 2013…
“The wines are generous, but a hint less Chablis due to a little less acidity. They will be lovely when young, though I don’t know how they will show as they age – quite possibly the minerality will slowly come to the fore.
“Overall we had 25 percent lower yields in this vintage, virtually all due to poor flowering. I will try to increase some prices by 4 or 5 percent…”
The wines…
A tasty enough selection of wines here. Not super-fresh but not too rich either…
2013 Petit Chablis
Fresh, floral, some weight of aroma too. Relatively round, modest but with perfectly balancing acidity. A good PC with no faults
2013 Chablis
A little fresher and seemingly a little minerality showing through too. Faint gas, but afterwards the palate becomes silkier and has a nice direct line of flavour. Fine finish in a more mineral style. Tasty.
2013 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
3 parcels of vines of at least 45 years old.
A more modest aromatic, indeed a little tight. Silky, a little wider with an extra twist if intensity in the mid-palate to the finish. Finishes well in a slightly herby vernacular…
2013 Chablis 1er Vaucopins
A little tight up top but below is a perfumed ripeness. Wider, more complex and I would say elegant. Lovely flavour in the mid-palate and into the finish. Very tasty – a wine of fineness.
2013 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
A wider , slightly saline aroma. Here’s more direct flavour, an intense and muscular wine vs the Vaucopins. Bigger in the mid-palate too, lots of energy and decent complexity too – yum
2012 Chablis Bougros
Deep and with floral high tones. Nicely round no undue emphasis in any direction. Lithe, a little more weight and concentration but hardly any fat – just pure wine and mineral wine at that. The finish seems to open out rather than diminish – for a while – very good!
