A little less than half a harvest here in 2013. Already there was an increase in prices for the 12s so they will keep their 13s the same level.
The wines…
A very good classic lineup of clean, mineral wines – tasty wines too, importantly!
2013 Chablis
This will be the second bottling – to be bottled in a few weeks – tasted from tank. There’s no difference between the labels of this and the second bottling.
The nose is wide and with some concentration too, a hint of herb in the mix. Silky, steely and with a really nice mid-palate weight. Tasty!
A parcel selection from two parcels opposite the domaine, always same parcels, from the the hillside continuation of Aux Fournaux 1er Cru, but just turning the corner so more south-west facing as the hill turns, rather than direct south like Fournaux. Again tasted from tank.
Delicate, pretty aromas that are nicely elegant. More mineral, lithe and fine – here’s a really lovely finish. Yum!
2013 Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
All elevage is in tank for this. Also tasted from tank.
A rather tighter nose, but with a fine ripeness seemingly in waiting. A little more weight and a lot more minerality – a very nice, almost perfumed, sweet flavour to finish. Very, very good.
The following wines tasted from bottle:
2013 Chablis
The first bottling that was done in November
High toned and a little salty – modest intensity but still with energy. Mineral in the mouth with a growing intensity. This is also very, very good.
2013 Chablis 1er En Fourneaux
Some smaller part with barrel fermentation before being re-assembled into tank.
A little more sweetness here but definitely a wine wedded in minerality – not a massive jump from the villages, the difference is more in the direction of extra complexity than weight or intensity. Very good!
2013 Chablis Le Fourchaume
All tank elevage.
A bigger nose with some herb elements but also a hint of bottle stink to start – slowly the weight of fruit becomes apparent. Transparent, also with quite some weight, and a little taste of the something herby but also lots of finishing complexity – indeed the finish is delicious.
2012 Chablis
Tight but mineral. Indeed very mineral – with perfectly buffered acidity and a really super line of intense flavour. Narrow and mineral – pure Chablis!
2012 Chablis 1er Vaucopins
Deep, a little tight but with lovely green-skinned fruit complexity. Just a hint of richness and very good weight in the mid-palate. It’s an understated intensity and energy, but it’s there all the same – a long slow burn. Very yum! And a super finish too!
2012 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
A tight nose, only modest higher tones escape from the glass, plus slowly a little sweetness. Fine, minerality and with a little more power and energy too – super growth of flavour into a lovely finish. Very yum again!
2012 Chablis Les Fourneaux
A ripe core with ripe higher tones above too. More acid intensity here but with a silkiness to the palate. Intense green fruit towards the finish.
