Corton-Charlemagne

Medium yellow. The nose is wide and shows a complex mix of fruits; pineapple, melon, lemon and a white blossom. Rich concentration with real intensity in the mid-palate and nicely-judged acidity. The flavours in the finish start slightly savoury and fade in a creamier way. Very young but certainly much more concentration that the two pulignys which were drank either side of it…

All from Pernand fruit. The nose is a wide vista edged with faint caramel. The palate is mineral and well textured yet still manages to saturate the palate with concentrated fruit. The length appears merely good, but the wine overall is far better than that.

Another wine with very reticent aromatics – I can’t say anything here. In the mouth it’s concentrated and focused and has a nice intensity to it. Very long and just slightly savoury in the finish. Good Charlemagne!

Sourced from the south-facing Languettes and the first grapes harvested for the firm. The nose shows very focused, high-toned width. In the mouth its linear but with a little mid-palate richness and an understated power – but a balanced and mineral power. It’s certainly not a ‘look at me’ wine, rather one that efficiently delivers in-line with its label.

deep and savoury nose with just a little background sulfur. Very mineral, soft in texture and widening into the mid-palate and long, long in the finish. This has some understatement for a Charlemagne but the depth and concentration are obvious.

Higher-toned with precise fruit. Less rounded, more mineral and linear. An interesting extra dimension comes into the mid-palate and into the long finish.

The nose is rather dumb – I can’t coax anything out. In the mouth this is actually rather good – super length and (I think) lots of potential.

Intense, faintly creamy aromatics. Very soft and silky with a creamy concentration. Wide and long – excellent – from the style and poise I’d guess Bouchard Père.

2006 de Villamont Henri Corton-Charlemagne

A reticent nose – tight fruits in the mix. Wide, silky, high-toned fruit in the mouth. There’s a hint of spritz and a long savoury finish but this doesn’t have the extra zing of the previous wines.
