Marie-Laure’s notes:
The 2017s will be bottled in January, I think that they are maybe better than in 2018 – the latter is rather rich so we will have to see – lots of alcohol on the 2018s. 2017 will be very tasty, the 2016 will be more serious.

In 2016 our Ladoix and Pernand were lost – the Savigny 1ers were assembled into a single cuvée this vintage.

The wines…

Marie-Laure didn’t want to show the 2017s before bottling, so we looked at her bottled ‘available’ wines. DIAM here for the aligoté, Bourgogne and Hautes Côtes.

The Meursault is easily the more sophisticated of the whites, but I’m a big Savigny Blanc fan, and the 2016 hasn’t missed a beat chez moi. The red 2016s – well there isn’t much, but the 1er cru blend is fabulous – assuming that you can find any!

2016 Bourgogne Blanc
From les Perrières, the youngest vines of the domaine – 50 years old!
Round, deep and impressive, some aromatic oak. Nice in the mouth, faintly saline edge to the sweetness. A nice vibration of finishing flavour. Good stuff.

2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc
Up to an amazing 20 parcels can be blended here – frost permitting. Old vines but still about 38 hl/ha normally 50 hl/ha
Faint herb like the last – but clearly a more vibrant nose, no overt oak. Lime, salinity, fresh, muscled – to wait for but absolutely delicious. And long too – ‘Drink the 2017s before this’ says Marie-Laure – all I can say, is that I bought some, and they taste great now!

2016 Meursault
Clous and Moulin Landins.
A clearly finer, wider, faintly sliced nose. Hmm, depth, finer texture, with a concentrated core of flavour. Very long. Delicious and concentrated. Yum!

Les Rouges:

2015 Côte de Nuits Villages
A narrower nose than the whites but a dark red almost gellied fruit. Direct, intense, a wine of line and slowly melting depth of flavour, with a faint touch of tannin, maybe a hint of oak spice in the finish – again saline and with super length. Super.

2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune
More depth of relaxed fruit aroma. More volume, more structured, long, though I’d leave this a couple of years – fresh and long in character.

2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune Serrignyssime
The three parcels of old vines 70-80 years old.
Easier to assimilate this open red-fruited nose. More volume, but with a depth of easier texture – still very open and with concentration and structure. Mineral, richer clay-style in the finish. Strong and virile after the comfortable start.

2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
All assembled due to the frost, on average 80% was lost but in some parcels all.
A beautiful nose of depth and virile, pure, red fruit. Supple, depth of fruit flavour. Wide, complex – beautiful wine. Drink or wait – bravo.

2016 Auxey-Duresses 1er Bas des Duresses
More freshness, an open nose, slowly a fine red fruit again but different in character to the Savigny. Fresh, higher toned, nice growing intensity, structure and depth of flavour in the finish. A vibrant finish!

2016 Monthelie 1er Sur la Velle
A more cushioned, still pure red fruit with a little violet flowers. Good volume again, depth of texture and flavour too. Wide waves in the finish. Very fine…

2016 Volnay 1er Mitans
A faint lactic to start, more depth of complexity. Growing and becoming more and more attractive in the mouth – super. Depth, freshness, a little structured. Waves of fine flavour, supple but still young…
