Nicolas on 2022 & 2023:
“In 2022 we took our time to harvest – we weren’t pressed to harvest everything at once and I’m very happy with the result. Our 2022s were racked in July and they are now all in tank. We experienced a bit of hail in 2023 but we destemmed all that and I’m happy – in the end we are below the authorised yields and seem to have good quality. You had to really triage the reds but the volume supported that.”
The wines…
A very good range of 2022s – I particularly ‘fell’ for the Grands Charrons!
All cork at this domaine except that screw-caps may be available too – “We did DIAM tests and all was good but we couldn’t find exceptional wines… It depends on the client – all of Australia for instance – but screw-caps have their place, we also use them for all our half bottles…
2022 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Malpoirier
All in 500-litre barrels, none new
Ripe but energetic citrus – nice. Plenty of sweetness, round and slowly fading with a hint of minerality a little sweet but very tasty… There is length and concentration.
2022 Meursault
A blend of many parcels from all around the village with different altitudes.
More direct, much more precise – a mix of barrels, eggs and wine-globe elevage. Direct in the mouth too, more direct, still with plenty of sweetness, and an extra juicy and more mineral personality – super villages.
2022 Meursault Clos St.Felix
‘Le Village’ on the maps. Next to the domaine, exiting Meursault towards Puligny
More airy – a faint suggestion of reduction. More depth and power but certainly in the more mineral register. Fluid middle and finishing flavours. Super wine.
Beautiful freshness and Meursault spice – classic. Energy and minerality – ooh that’s got a hint direct style and I’s a great villages – bravo!
2022 Meursault Narvaux
Another nose of vibrancy here with a sizzle of minerality too. Extra direct, juicy, but still that eases over the palate in the middle and finishing flavours. Lovely stuff.
2022 Meursault 1er Les Charmes
From the ‘top of the bottom’ to the south.
Super, direct, fine and super classy. Extra energy and middle complexity here – not a fat Charmes, though the concentration is clear – fine and airy quality here and it’s already a super drink – a shame it won’t be bottled until February!
2022 Meursault 1er Genevrières
Hail was close to the south of village in 23 – so here, and Poruzots, but not as far away as our Charmes
Really perfumed – there are both flowers and minerals here. Broad – there is power here, but it’s chamfered at the edges, nothing hard – generous but beautifully balanced and even a little mineral. This finish really grows. Wait a couple of years I think this will be a beauty.
2022 Meursault 1er Perrières
Narrower, more direct, fine airy citrus top notes. A shimmering width of much more mineral flavour. The finish is direct and strong – holding super well with a hint of salinity too – clearly the least ready of these – wait 3+ years I think but fine clarity and strength to this flavour.
