2006 Mugnier J-F Nuits St.Georges Clos de la Maréchale

By billn on January 29, 2012

Medium-plus colour once more. Here the nose is really about pinot (oops – Nuits! – well, maybe…) with a top to bottom elegance, plenty of floral, violet, references too. In the mouth this has extra sweetness and also is much more silky; yet roll it around in your mouth and you’ll find lovely acidity and no lack of velvety tannin – you just need to look for it. The fruit in the mouth is quite high toned, but very pretty. This is actually very lovely now, but has a reserve of balance – which I hope will allow me to still enjoy my last bottle in at least another 20 years. It’s not super-long, but it is super-tasty. Yum. A point worth noting is that if the wine reaches the heady heights of a mere 20 degrees, it becomes a bit diffuse an less impressive – keep to 18 or below and all is well.

2006 Mikulski François Meursault Poruzots

The nose is wide, faintly caramel and shows a certain sweetness. In the mouth this is full and round, it also shows quite some cushioning – initially the acidity seems almost borderline, certainly after the last bottles – yet alone this is a wine that won’t leave you unrefreshed. Some herbs in a finish that has a certain sweetness – not unlike the nose!

2006 Bouton Gilles Blagny Sous Le Puits

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose starts a little tight but shows a dark core of glossy fruit. Silky with a slowly building tannin – it remains subtle and has a bitter-chocolate edge. The dark fruit flavour grows in tandem and is really quite impressive in the mid-palate, it holds quite well too. Tight yet with clean lines and a decent depth of fruit. Very nice.

2006 Perrière (Fixin) Fixin Clos de la Perrière

A hint of reduction on the nose. Full interesting and mouth-filling. Lovely texture and flavours borne on the acidity. A super burst of mid-palate flavour with hints of licorice. Very good wine.

2006 Pavillon Pommard Les Rugiens

The nose has lovely high-toned perfume. Mouth-filling with plenty of tannin that still shows an edge of astringency. The finish is very understated, perhaps not the longest either. I’m surprised that I much prefer the 07.

2006 Serveau Bernard Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses

By billn on January 26, 2011

Well, I’m glad it wasn’t me! Not a trace of volatility here, just very pretty fruit – a raspberry conserve, perhaps with a little mint-leaf. Full and impressive over the tongue, round with fine tannin. The finish is clean as a bell – just lovely wine. Given the domaine’s tarif, no surprise that this one is sold-out!

2006 Bize Simon Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Grands Liards

The grand Deep and interesting fruit aromas – it’s lovely dark-red shaded fruit. In the mouth there is velvet tannin that you can almost chew and a very good balance.

2006 de Courcel Pommard Grand Clos des Epenots

By billn on January 24, 2011

Lighter colour. Heavier perfume, perhaps a hint of esters. Starts with a narrow entry – this wine is initially more about texture than flavour, but the flavour slowly builds – really mouth-watering in the finish. A wine to wait for I think, but I find a lot to like here.
