Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is at first reticent but the array of pretty red and black fruits is certainly enticing. Eventually there’s a more savoury soil note which isn’t so nice – I hope that’s just a phase. Silky entry, with good freshness. There is a wiry strength to this, linear until the flavours grow in the mid-palate then decay in a subtle but long finish. Overall this has quite a mineral personality and largely submerged tannins – but it’s certainly less involving than the 2008 was at this time last year. A good wine but with a question-mark over the aromatics…(?)
2009
2009 Cornu Corton
2009 Mallard Michel Corton Renardes
I think I can re-use this bottle for weight-training – even after it is drained! Medium, medium-plus colour. There’s a faintly roasted red fruit note but overall the nose is rather fine. Across your tongue this is soft and reasonably silky with good depth of flavour. Very good length but overall I think it needs to be more engaging – this is the vintage vernacular, rather than the domaine.
2009 Pousse d'Or Corton Clos du Roi
Medium-plus colour. Notes of ripe dark fruit mingle with equally dark oak – or is the latter colouring the former? After the nose this is much more lithe than I was expecting – really lovely intensity and some ripe tannin too. Long-finishing flavours of dark fruit and licorice; this wine seems to have absorbed the toasty flavours more than the others.
2009 Ramonet Noel Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
2009 Ramonet Noel Bâtard-Montrachet
2009 Ramonet Noel Chevalier-Montrachet
The domaine trade some Bâtard with Chartron for this. Very understated aromas. Super, super mouth-coating flavour. Minerality and a hint of astringency. I think this really excellent. It is a completely different, higher-toned personality to the other wines and I also think it is just behind the Bâtard in quality.
