No lagging in the price department – I wonder (out loud!) who are the clientelle here. Of-course if Bernstein and Le Moine can reach these sort of levels, why not the person who owns the land and the vines and works those vines?

As a potential customer, I would be tempted to give these prices a big “bras d’honneur”. Non-French speakers can look that up on Google, I think you’ll get the meaning fairly quickly. The more so as the 2017 vintage was rather generous in pinot noir grapes (much more so than chardonnay), so it is neither a very small, nor a “year of the century” vintage that would potentially justify price increases. I think this kind of pricing is harmfull to Burgundy wine and its image in general.
Like Sycamore, I agree that there is nothing you wrote that anyone could deny Roelof. Is it gouging as Mike suggests? Well, PM have always been very expensive, and I haven’t got comparitive prices from other retailers, so maybe yes, maybe no. But the two Chambertins at more than twice the price of (still very high) Clos de Tart only make me laugh…
Agree with you, Roelof! The Charmes and Mazoyeres (as examples) jump off the page as being 2-3X too high, even factoring in the current market/pricing……
…and as per usual, it is the trade that is gauging prices, slapping on insane mark-ups and creating exaggerated price differentiation where there is none. Not that Msr. Christophe isn’t keenly aware of the market and his place in it, but…
