1999 Daniel Rion, Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Beaux-Monts
Medium, medium plus colour. The nose starts with a waft of dark, dank, slightly reduced, earthy toast that fades to be replaced with a slowly building crescendo of dark and impressive cherry fruit. Good, perhaps slightly lifted acidity abets the mid-palate intensity and length. The fruit in the mid-palate has a nice high-toned impression and the lingering note of the finish is stony/mineral. Acid-o-philes will like this a lot, I did!

Did you write this just for me Bill ? So kind !
Sounds ace. Got a couple of bottles of the 93 of this lurking in the garage for some suitable occasion. Think it’s this anyway – Rion certainly but different label.
On another note, after a ‘testing’ 16 hour day dealing with a banking complaint to our Chief Exec, tonight I opened the first of 6 bottles of Jean Chauvenet 1996 NSG Les Vaucrains. Wow !!!
Way beyond expectations & maybe my best red burg this yr. Murmurs of appreciation from ‘er indoors as well. Bit musty initially on the nose but fantastic core of sweet black fruits and slightly sour cherry as soon as hit the palate. Very subtle, lots of swirling competing flavours. Sooo well integrated with perfect fruit & acid balance. Really developed over time in the Riedel with coffeeish notes. Super length. Actually thought it might just be slightly corked – if so roll on the other 5.
No idea were I got this from – been cellared since en primeur purchase. Do you know this producer – only wine of his I’ve got. Could be a boob !
