live links – dead links…

30.4.2010billn

If anyone’s having problems – sorry.

The whole site was re-linked (with redirections) overnight. The site will be easier to manage but you might experince quite a lot of dead links if you’ve bookmarked any particular pages – just so you know. The NoteFinder is today’s biggest casualty – hopefully back later today…

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?

    Hi Bill

Do you know any good software to automatically check dead links?
Possibly I have the same issue for old documents on my site….

    Thanks in advance and regards

      @ V-M,
Sorry I have no idea about that. As far as this site, somebody ‘mapped a redirect’ for me, whatever that means and whatever they did I don’t know – sorry for that…

I just noticed that my rss feed into google reader hasn’t been working for the past week or so. Not sure it this is related or not, but I’m assuming that it is.

    Cheers,
    Will

      Hi Will.
That’s not something I spotted before – thanks for that. It’s because the site update moved the feed to a new location. If you click on RSS (or Atom) at the top of the diary page, you may see that this location is slightly different vs the old one. You would need to update the pointer to this new location in your goggle reader. I just checked but didn’t find out where to do that in the google reader, so I deleted the old feed subscription, then opened a new one with the new feed location – worked for me.
It was something I wasn’t aware would happen before I made the changes…
      Bill
