a really nice bottle, plus recent ‘things’ of interest…

1999 Nicolas Potel, Volnay Vieilles Vignestry to find this wine...
A medium, medium-plus quite young looking colour. If it wasn’t so sweetly fruity I’d describe the nose as perfumed; it starts as a creamy ‘summer pudding’ with undertones of caramel, 2 hours is enough to focus the aromas to a beam of pure red berry – as perfect as a young villages Volnay can be. On your tongue it has A1 balance and a very understated impact. A characterful flavour in the finish that nods to the barrel but without any of the wood tannin texture. I spent most of my time sniffing, but it tastes rather good too. I rather wish I’d bought this in magnums – but hey-ho…
Rebuy – Yes

Galaxy’s centre tastes of raspberries and smells of rum, say ‘experts’

  • All the hot news here of course! Perhaps the horse-head nebula brings a little brettanomyces too. 😉
  • Or maybe the wine in your glass only “responds to the Moon’s rhythms“(?) Jamie Goode is anyway pooh-poohing the notion.
  • Some lovely new photos again from Vincent Dancer; this time horses plouging and also ‘Montrachet Awakening’:

He’s some photographer, Vincent, isn’t he ? Talented guy & most excellent winemaker aussi. Lovely purity, fruit, minerality and balance in his wines – must get some more !

I’ve seen all these photos before as signed up for his email links to his blog but nonethless have just been through them all again they are such wonderful images. The one of the Abbaye de Morgeot brought back fond memories of my 06 vendange at Magenta (domaine buildings behind / below the Abbaye). Our accomodation was the end building on the right along the bottom edge of the photo which was, err, a hovel at the time but la Duchesse, Amelie MacMahon, has now converted to a nice small gite I believe.

Any suggestions for my 09 vendange Bill 🙂

    09 vendange?

    I naturally stick with the home team;
    a) if they’ll have me and
    b) if i can make it.
    You?

Thought you might be – sticking with the home team that is 🙂

Me ? Dont know yet really – being somewhat indecisive at the moment. Was looking to your goodself for “inspiration” ! Just changing job role, with same employer, hence time at a premium at the minute.

    Thoughts are :-
    a) I have “done’ Chassagne & Morey – two quite different set up’s. Maybe something new again ?
    b) To go back to the Arlaud family holds a good deal of appeal though. Herve is a great guy in the vineyards & otherwise. Quite varied vineyard sites & a lovely bunch of folk.
    c) Have an open invitation from Greg Gouges which could be very interesting.
    d) ‘Something’ is pulling me towards Meursault or somewhere like Pernand-Vergelesses. Your piece on Dubreuil- Fontaine got me thinking – 20 hectares ? I love P-V as a village & quite handy for going into Beaune. I have a half written email to Pierre Morey not finished / sent for now. Would you know by any chance if D-F might be an opportunity & any English spoken (not essential)? All I need is feeding & accomodation. Will take the latter ‘rough’ as was Arlaud!!

If I sort myself out would be v happy to continue the Cote correspondent bit as last year if you want my ramblings & subject to Blackberry working but Mark de Morey might need a name change !

Sorry again about Belle & for your loss.
