St.Aubin Murgers des Dents de Chien

One third of new oak used here. There’s a little more of a savoury edge to the nose on this. A hint of sweetness and some fat texture play against the acidity. Then there’s a nice burst of interest on the mid-palate and a lingering finish. Considering this has been in bottle on 3 or 4 days, this is rather good.

Medium-pale lemon yellow. The nose needs a little while to widen, perhaps a little white blossom. The palate is intense and soft, sweetly ripe. The acidity seems quite understated – but there’s much more density to this wine than in most vintages, it even has some focus. For the price, very impressive.

From magnum. Medium lemon-yellow colour. The nose is soft and sweet with a faint citrus edge over a note of ripe pear. In the mouth this has a soft texture and in particular has a lovely and impressively lingering, mineral intensity. The acidity is almost good and certainly leaves my mouth watering. This is a super little wine which I try to buy every year, great value.

Medium yellow. The nose fresh, just a little savoury and spicy against that citrussy 2004 feel. Medium-intensity with very good acidity and a nice flow into the good finish. Again there’s a slightly savoury element to the palate too. Plenty of flesh here, rather than the taught, haughty aspect of many in 2004. Easy and tasty drinking – very good value at it’s pre-arrival price.

Pale lemon-yellow. A smooth nose of brioche and mineral notes and some quite bready depth – very appealing. This really stands apart on the palate, very good acidity coupled to nice minerality, yet there is good mid-palate impact. The finish is just a little oak driven at the moment, but this wine has drive and personality. Everyone enjoyed this very much.

Already a deep yellow colour. The nose is sweet, a little spicy and slightly dense. The palate reflects the nose in that it’s dense and tight, only hinting at an extra layer of compexity. In this phase I’d like a hint more acidty to carry that density along, but it’s clean and very tasty. Hopefully it will move onto the next level as it unravels. Good.

Only an impression really as I lost my note. From magnum, more sediment than there should have been – perhaps from fining(?) Great nose and a plate of real depth – magnum or not this was polished of by four of us very quickly – I must see if there is some more of this wine – before they run out – it’s worth it!

Medium yellow. The nose is a nice blend of leesy, deep creamy notes and overlaying higher-toned, sweeter notes of subtle pineapple. The palate shows real intensity to the fruit and is coupled to super acidity – finishes with a real flourish. To be honest the intensity becomes wearing, but I’m drinking this way too young. Keep it cool as there’s a loss of focus when the temperature rises, otherwise this is a super wine in terms of both presentation and value – and now there’s a case in my cellar! Apparently the 2002 has a little extra ripeness and a little lower acidity, so sounds less likely to gain a place in my cellar – but you never know.
