Corton Clos du Roi

2006 Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Clos du Roi

Medium colour. Intense, focused red fruit. In the mouth it’s full and powerful and there’s plenty of obvious tannin. At this stage the balance seems in favour of the structure, yet the clean flavours linger very nicely. Needs at least 6-8 years in the cellar I’d say.

Medium colour. Ripe red fruit is backed by a little darker oak. The fruit gives a slightly roast impression but the structure and the finish are very good. Very good.

Shown after the Corton as it’s much riper. High-toned aromas that are more forceful, still floral but also a little estery. Ripe with velvet tannin and good length. Simpler after the Corton, but hardly less forceful. Good wine.

The nose is wide and savoury. In the mouth you find a lovely core of sweet red fruit – it’s not so long, but it’s a lovely vibrant presentation that is very moreish.

Unfortunately the first bottle smelled and tasted of feet – the second was altogether more interesting: A lovely core of red fruit surrounded by slightly more diffuse high tones. The structure is now starting to fade in favour of nicely defined and ripe red fruit. The finish is a good one too. Quite a pretty wine.

A medium-plus ruby-red core. The nose is about iron and soft, sweet, musky notes topped with fainter blackberry. Linear and intense, this is classic 1996 with mouth-watering acidity and a faint but lingering length. It’s a very clean, concentrated and tidy wine that’s showing little in the way of development and will probably require at least another 5 years to turn a little friendly…

Medium to deep ruby, little sign of aging. The nose is laser sharp red cherry, fantastic! The palate is equally sharp, concentrated cherry fruit with very good acidity and medium tannins. Certainly not a charmer just now. Best to leave for 3 or 4 years it will be excellent.
