From 6 plots whse vines average about 35 years old – there is some vine disease, but the payoff is lower yields and smaller grapes and clusters. Medium, medium-plus colour. A similar, slightly sweet aromatic profile but the fruit is darker. Supple, with good concentration. Very well balanced. The tannin shows together with the dark flavours as you head into the creamy finish. Very successful villages!
2007
2007 Potel Nicolas Meursault Vieilles Vignes
2007 Dujac Morey St.Denis Blanc
From the lower part of the slopes. Pale yellow. High tones mix with a faint oak note. The oak begins to fade as the aromas take on more depth – just a hint of sulfur on the nose. Across the tongue it is wide, with a lovely freshness. The flavours of ripe fruit slowly penetrate the tongue. This is lovely.
2007 Potel Nicolas Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes
2007 Ferret JA Pouilly-Fuisse
Medium colour. One third vinified in cask, the rest in stainless-steel and blended 2-3 weeks before bottling. Fresh, though not particularly high-toned aromas though just a hint of brioche. In the mouth there’s lovely freshness – it’s ripe but round and well balanced – there’s just a discrete richness. Mouth-watering length – a very nice entry wine.
2007 Potel Nicolas Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes La Goujonne
2007 Mischief and Mayhem Saint-Romain
No oak – all elevage in stainless steel – bottled in July 2008. A soaring, high-toned nose that’s faintly estery but high-toned and engaging. In the mouth there’s much more impact than expected; good density and concentration and a lovely citrus acidity that aids the length. Slowly it develops a creamy flavour. Taught and tasty – I thought this lovely.
2007 Mischief and Mayhem Meursault
Bottled September 2008. The colour is a little deeper yellow. Riper and punchier aromas fill the glass, backed by faint oak. The flavours are richer than the St.Romain’s but there’s an underlying freshness that avoids too fat an impression, yet the texture is silky smooth. Faintly lingering with some savoury flavour. Clean and tasty.
2007 Mischief and Mayhem Puligny-Montrachet
A similar colour to the Meursault – about 25% new oak. Faint wisps of oak mingle with the classic higher tones and ‘cut’ of Puligny. This seems to offer a shade more excitement than the Meursault, with fine penetrating flavours. Super acidity and faint cream is to be seen on the very good finish. Super.
