2007

2007 Remoissenet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin

By on November 30, 2009 #asides

Nice, dark cherry with slightly earthy tones. A lush width of fruit that has good balancing structure. Slowly lingering, less ripe fruit than the Marconnets. Very good.

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Saint-Romain

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

No oak – all elevage in stainless steel – bottled in July 2008. A soaring, high-toned nose that’s faintly estery but high-toned and engaging. In the mouth there’s much more impact than expected; good density and concentration and a lovely citrus acidity that aids the length. Slowly it develops a creamy flavour. Taught and tasty – I thought this lovely.

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Meursault

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

Bottled September 2008. The colour is a little deeper yellow. Riper and punchier aromas fill the glass, backed by faint oak. The flavours are richer than the St.Romain’s but there’s an underlying freshness that avoids too fat an impression, yet the texture is silky smooth. Faintly lingering with some savoury flavour. Clean and tasty.

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Puligny-Montrachet

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

A similar colour to the Meursault – about 25% new oak. Faint wisps of oak mingle with the classic higher tones and ‘cut’ of Puligny. This seems to offer a shade more excitement than the Meursault, with fine penetrating flavours. Super acidity and faint cream is to be seen on the very good finish. Super.

2007 Potel Nicolas Côte de Nuits Villages

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

Bottled in November. A fresh, understated nose with a few hints of herbs. Sweetness and good attack – a hint of gas – reminds of Gevrey-style. This needs a little cellar rest, but is almost good.

2007 Boisset Jean-Claude St.Aubin

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

Harvested on the same day as the aligoté, reared in 400 litre barrels – Grégory says that his aim is more minerality and less oak. Pale colour, penetrating nose. Direct and mineral with super acidity packaging the sweetness. Super.

2007 Potel Nicolas Savigny-lès-Beaune

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

Bottled in November. Another understated nose, but clean and tidy with a dark-fruit complexion. There’s good extension of flavour through the mid-palate and into the finish. Again a nicely fresh wine with an underlying structure that recommends a little resting time in the cellar.

2007 Boisset Jean-Claude Marsannay Blanc

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

The third vintage for this cuvée. Very pale yellow. High tones, very fine yet an extra depth of fruit aroma. Again there’s a beautiful blend of acidity and sweetness. Finally a small savoury element in the finish – super (again!).

2007 Potel Nicolas Volnay Vieilles Vignes

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

A January bottling. A width of interesting and pretty aromatic notes, underpinned with deeper, darker elements. A narrow entry on the palate, but it widens considerably. Decent structure of well balanced tannin and acidity – lovely balanced wine.
