2007 Chézeaux Griotte-Chambertin

By on June 30, 2009 #asides

Medium cherry-red. The nose starts with a burst of enthusiasm, tightens for a couple of minutes, then relaxes; although it’s not so wide there is a wonderful depth of dark, close to raised, fruit – eventually the aromas fill-out, proffering baked raspberry edged with violets! In your mouth, it cocks it’s hat to the domaine’s Clos St.Denis with an intensity that is acid-encrusted – fresh redcurrant style – with this wine there’s a little more tannin, but the most surprising aspect is the finish – it’s not so much the length, rather the very mineral, slatey flavour – it seems more like grand cru Chablis than comely Griotte, and that’s the wine all-over. No comfy, plush, slightly facile experience that you may expect from the label, rather a wine that challenges you with every sniff and sip, but in return offers you a different aroma and flavour as reward. I can’t call it gorgeous, but I found it sooo rewarding…

2007 Boisset Jean-Claude Clos de la Roche

Medium, medium-plus colour. A good width of aromas – mineral mixing with high tones. Plenty of structure here, and an excellent burst of interest in the mid-palate. Slowly lingering, this is a very good wine.

2007 Long-Depaquit Chablis Les Blanchots

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

A dense but somehow tense core of fruit. Fat, very good acidity that seems to ooze flavour from all directions. Finishes longer if not showing the same bare rocks of the two 1er crus.

2007 Clerget Christian Echézeaux

Faint caramel, otherwise a tight showing for the nose. Wide and quite interesting flavours, but the fuit seems a little less pretty than most. No faults, not much excitement either.

2007 Long-Depaquit Chablis Le Clos

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Wider, higher-toned nose of concentrated fruit. A little extra weight and fruitiness and long mineral flavours, very long. This is really super.

2007 Forey Père et Fils Echézeaux

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Wide and fresh aromatics that mingle herbs with the base fruit. This is good – lots of concentration, good ‘fat’ complex and impressive. Very nice.

2007 Long-Depaquit Chablis Vaudesir

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Deep, slightly riper fruit aromas. The acidity seems slightly less ripe than the previous grand crus – similar to the premiers, though the concentration is on another level. Less impact than the ‘Clos’ and more understated but just as long.

2007 Gerbet Marie–Andrée et Chantal Echézeaux

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

High-tones over a tighter core of red fruit. Wide and showing much more muscle than the Suchots. Plenty of tannin but good flavours also. Finishes very long, still with a sensation of the ripe tannins.

2007 Long-Depaquit Chablis La Moutonne

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Very faint brioche and a linear note of worthy depth. MOre savoury but very intense. The width quickly fades after a short mid-palate burst, but lingers very well.
