A deep ruby core with just a trace of amber towards the rim. The nose is meaty and at the same time high toned – latent traces of oak too. A sweet palate, though the svelte tannins show in quite a dry fashion they are quite in balance. A medium length, tasty and pleasing wine. Like most of Jadot’s wines this will benefit from further storage, but an hour in a decanter is all you need with this one.

(From a half bottle) Deep ruby still with a little cherry at the rim. The nose is predominantly sweet red fruit, perhaps just a trace of a meaty note too. The palate is also sweet with good tannins that started a little rustic but softened with air. There’s no astringency to the palate, just balanced concentration and good acidity that lifts the finish slightly. A moreish wine that was done all too quickly. Good villages.

Medium-plus cherry red. Nose is very black – cherry and blackberry – and becomes sweeter with time in the glass. Fresh palate with forward tannins that are a little on the grainy side. Slightly rustic today, but there’s plenty of fruit concentration to merit leaving the bottles another year or two. Almost good.

Medium ruby red, no maturity. The nose shows raspberry and cherry. In the mouth there’s good concentrated fruit which bursts across the palate at first taste, coupled with medium tannins and refreshing acidity. Very primary, but it can easily be enjoyed for its youth now. Nice wine.

1997 Jadot Louis Auxey-Duresses

Golden colour. Toasty, oaky nose with a sweet background creaminess and a hint of spent fireworks. A lovely intense palate with pear and peach and a little nutty, still marked by oak. There’s good acidity and a long creamy aftertaste. Voluptuous rather than elegant, I’d be quite content to leave this in the cellar for another year or two to let the oak fade a little more. Rather good.

Medium ruby red, no hint of maturity. The nose shows toasty oak and is quite sweet. The palate also shows sweetness, good acidity and very nice depth to the fruit. Still quite marked by the wood though. This wine is much more primary than many and needs at least 3 or 4 years in the cellar despite its village appellation. Very good.

1997 Jadot Louis Gevrey-Chambertin

Medium-full ruby. A deeper toasted oak nose and dare I say it slightly shitty aromas. There is a little sweet spice, but the wood is in charge here. 5 hours later the wood is gone leaving pretty black cherry fruit. The palate has more depth with high, though more controlled acidity than the Pommard, and the fruit is more black cherry. Length is good. More intense than the Pommard today, but younger – leave for another 2 years.
