2006 de Montille Bourgogne Rouge

By on November 30, 2009 #asides

Pale bright cherry red, with a broad paler rim showing pinkish still. Bright but slight, spicy cherry, nose. Fresh youthful and rustic, it makes me think of rolling in hay. Mouth entry is pure and sweet, but very small. Nice flavours – very fresh red fruit and spicy, bubblegummy, earth. The mid-palate shows good acidity and grip but no real size, and then it ends. Not quite clipped, but certainly short, though in a way that leaves you wanting more, rather than dissatisfied. Not a serious wine, but just the ticket for a picnic or a roll in the hay.

Medium colour. High tones, with pretty red berry and cherry fruit – it’s really lovely. The palate is not quite how I remember it; the texture is reasonably silky with just an edge of fat, but the acidity is much more in the ascendant than when I first had it – it’s also quite tart. Mouth-watering length, not surprisingly, but with a sneaky creamy edge. The fruit on the nose remains super. I would not touch another of these for at least 3 years as I does remind me of the ‘96 Leroy bourgogne at the same stage, and that’s a beauty now!

2006 Belland Roger Bourgogne Pinot Noir

A relatively rare ‘Diam’ cork-amalgum seal. Medium, medium-plus colour. A nice, forward blend of red and black cherry that with swirling concentrates more on the red – the last drops are super and redcurranty. A surprising amount of fat for the appellation, relatively fine tannin and good acidity. In the mid-palate I have the impression of some savoury flavour that goes into a decent finish. Very superior Bourgogne and perfect for pouring now. Excellent.

2006 Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Bourgogne

Relatively deep colour with purple hints. The nose is heavy with dark, sugar-coated cherry. There’s a soft texture and decent concentration. Slightly tart acidity is more than offset by young fruit that is both stylish and concentrated plus shows a good extra dimension in the mid-plate. A reasonable, if rather faint finish is the last act – perhaps dilute would also be an appropriate alternate description, despite the length. Not a long note, but a bottle that was emptied alarmingly fast. At a good price, this is worth going ‘long’ on for your cellar.

2006 Remoriquet Henri & Gilles Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

Medium-pale colour. High toned, slightly diffuse aromas. A good, honest mouthful of wine with nice tannin/acid balance. Perhaps a hint of bitterness in the finish but incredibly nice at €9 to take away…

High-toned aromas, quite intense, a little estery note somewhere, but overall fine depth. Quite rich, the acidity is just enough to balance, but the depth is superb for the appellation. Really fine.

2006 Mortet Thierry Bourgogne Rouge

Medium colour. A lovely unforced and rather precocious pinot nose. Also the fruit on the palate is surprisingly vibrant and pure. This is very enjoyable.

2006 Perrot-Minot Christophe Bourgogne

Medium colour. Not so wide, but has an interesting linear depth – fine and clean. Good concentration with ripe fruit and an understated structure. Quite nice.

2006 Maréchal Catherine et Claude Bourgogne Aligote

By on November 30, 2008 #asides

Apparently made in a ‘hyperoxigenated’ way. Medium yellow. The first aromas are high-toned over a base of fruit that reminds me of pinot blanc. In the mouth it starts a little spritzy but slowly became softer in the glass. Blind, I didn’t guess aligoté. Reasonably long, relatively light bodied but with good balance.
