2003

2003 Giroud Camille Bourgogne Pinot Noir

By on February 28, 2005 #asides

Bottled just before the 2004 harvest. Medium, medium-plus colour. A melange of sweet red fruit greets the first sniff. The palate is surprisingly plush for a regional wine, the sweet red fruit also on the palate. The acidity is almost good enough and the tannin is completely covered by the ripe fruit. Just one of many ‘super-regionals’ that will come from 2003. I bought the last available case, just, and at the expense of their Dutch importer – sorry about that , -)

2003 Bichot Albert Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes

By on February 28, 2005 #asides

Medium cherry-red colour. High-toned with kirsch on the nose, swirling reveals red fruit and a green note. The palate shows quite a vegetal mid-palate – not quite right. The replacement bottle is completely different, deeper coloured, sweeter nose and nothing green on the palate. Almost good structure. This is a well-made wine that would make a good house red, but leave it for another year first.

2003 Pataille Sylvain Bourgogne Rouge

By on October 31, 2004 #asides

Medium, medium-plus colour with purple highlights. High-toned fresh nose. Excellent intensity to the fruit – very kirsch style – good tannins too. This is first-class bourgogne. Lovely, I expect that I will be buying some.
