Corton Bressandes

The nose initially has a musty background though that aspect slowly fades to primary and nicely transparent red fruit, slowly it deepens and has a more obvious cherry aspect – very young aromatics though. Fresh, slightly forward acidity. Smooth, yet still with an undercurrent of velvety tannin. Nicely intense and even mineral fruit that slowly fades in the finish. Relatively open yet obviously painfully young – probably at least 5 years away from even some secondary development – very nice wine.

A wide yet understated nose of delicate, lovely fruit and a floral, violet notes. Understated entry but there’s concentration here and it’s great in the mid-palate. The structure is far from dominant and the finish seams rather intense and creamy – really lovely.

A lovely, understated though ripe and slightly musky nose. Densly concentrated, super acidity with a real extra dimension on the palate. Good length too. A real grand cru at a bargain price.

Medium, medium-plus ruby-red colour. A wine and mineral nose that slowly releases dark cherry fruit, gradually becoming higher toned before giving glimpses of coffee notes. The palate is clean, muscular and intense with really good, fresh acidity. The length doesn’t come close to match some of the previous wines, but it’s a very good finish if just a little oak-driven. A very nice package that needs two or three years before it starts drinking well.

The nose is both wide and deep, powdery red fruit, but very primary. Big and bold of flavour, but the tannins are quite elegant. There is a really intense concentration on the mid-palate that flows into the finish. Very good wine – and worth a couple of bottles in the cellar.

Medium colour. The nose is very red, raspberry and strawberry/cherry. Super acidity and very well mannered tannins. The fruit has intensity and length, the main impression is a wine that’s fresh and mineral rather than fat. Absolutely nothing rough about this wine, but could certainly do with a few years in the cellar to take on a little extra charm. Good wine.

1997 Guyon Antonin Corton Bressandes

Medium ruby colour a little browner at the rim. The nose is oaky with a medium-high toast note plus sweet and creamy cooked cherry tart. Smooth palate with tannins that really only show up on the finish – unfortunately there’s something rather bitter about the acidity – which shows up most on the finish. The finish is reasonably long with a creamy tinge. Given 30 minutes-plus in a decanter and the toasty oak is gone from the nose, replaced by a surprisingly earthy character and roasted fruits. The bitterness tones down a little – but only a little. Another wine that’s a bit of a curate’s egg.

Starts a little cheesy on the nose. Good depth with furry tannins, but the acidity is a little harsh. I’d drink this quite soon, pretty good, but for me no better.
