2006 Moreau J. et Fils Chablis Vaudesir

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Reticent aromatics; flowers and soap though eventually a few deeper tones. Very nice acidity and minerality despite a quite soft entry – really gets going in the mid-palate though. Very good length.

2006 Gambal Alex Clos de Vougeot

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

50% new oak. A wide nose of red berries, though not so deep as the Chambolle Charmes. This is a mouth-filler! Plenty of tannic structure but equally full of complexity and dimension. Nicely fresh, this is a worthy Clos Vougeot.

2006 Pavillon Corton-Charlemagne

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Sourced from the south-facing Languettes and the first grapes harvested for the firm. The nose shows very focused, high-toned width. In the mouth its linear but with a little mid-palate richness and an understated power – but a balanced and mineral power. It’s certainly not a ‘look at me’ wine, rather one that efficiently delivers in-line with its label.

2006 Parent Corton Renardes

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

A wide, slightly wild and interesting nose. Full-packed with astringent tannin, and somewhere behind is the fruit – another wine for the (very) patient.

2006 Picard Michel Montrachet

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Dense fruit with a subtle oak undertow. Concentrated yet mineral with a good spine of acidity. Savoury length and more mineral than any of the Bâtards, but not necessarily better.

2006 Picard Michel Corton

Wide aromatics with good red and black fruit – though limited depth. Sweet, lithe and concentrated. It’s tannic but quite well balanced. Dark oak lingers on a good length.
