2003 Vougeraie Vougeot Clos Blanc de Vougeot

By on February 28, 2006 #asides

Rich and ripe with apparently good acidity – but just a little harshness – this was quite a late bottling despite a quick malo. For my palate, disappointing, even for an 03.

There’s a touch of honey on the nose, faint melon too. The palate is a little shy and and understated – but it’s finely constructed – long and complex with good minerality. This is a young but super wine, really fine.

The nose is reminiscent of the 2001 with its faint touch of honey. The palate, likewise, has really good acidity and fine depth. Only the texture is a little disappointing vs the super 2001, but for all that, this is a very nice wine.

The only wine from this vertical that betrays a little oak on the nose, no honey notes to spot this time. Fresh, interesting but not quite the depth and length of the 2000-02 trio. Pleasant enough wine.

A slightly diffuse nose. Good fat on the nicely sweet palate and well balanced to the acidity. This is a very nice wine which impresses as it moves from the mid-palate into the finish.

2001 Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice

By on February 28, 2003 #asides

All the vines here on gravelly soil. Medium-plus colour. Lovely nose of soil together with red and black fruits. Soft entry with slightly drying tannins. Super fruit here and the finish comes with a bit of a bang. Very pure expression of fruit here.

Yields of only 25hl/ha. Slightly darker colour. Pure red and black cherry nose with a hint of vanilla. Medium tannins and persistent fruit. Again lovely wine.

2001 Vougeraie Chambolle-Musigny

A blend of four vineyards, including one 1er cru (Baudes). Bright, medium cherry colour. The nose has hints of earth and smooth red fruits. On the palate, gorgeous red fruits, medium soft tannins which coat your teeth. Medium length. Very interesting.
