A tighter, finer core of black-shaded fruits on the nose – some depth too. A super fine texture to the palate, just a little more padding than the ‘Lavières’- again dark shaded fruit. I always liked this wine, and here is no exception.

High-toned fruit over a depth of dark fruit with hints of oak. Nice texture, lovely purity; the tannins are a little more forward but still quite fine. A super wine.

The nose is both wide and deep, powdery red fruit, but very primary. Big and bold of flavour, but the tannins are quite elegant. There is a really intense concentration on the mid-palate that flows into the finish. Very good wine – and worth a couple of bottles in the cellar.

Medium ruby-red – looks lovely in the glass – quite young looking. The nose starts slightly feral followed by a deep chocolate note, then a savoury stage before a baked raspberry tart core remains constant. Nice fat, round in aspect it’s well balanced with lovely acidity and real complexity. Still some tannin, the finish slowly fades.
Lots of interest here – do yourself a favour and don’t always drink these young!

Medium, medium-plus cherry-red colour. The nose is high-toned, very fresh and very red with a creamy edge. Likewise a very fresh palate, concentrated red shaded fruit that’s also very creamy in the finish – slowly takes on a blacker shade. The medium tannins are finely grained but also slightly astringent. Lingering acidity too. There is much more obvious structure here than many 02’s but it didn’t hamper the drinking in any way. I usually like this wine and this is no exception – more to be ordered.

2000 Tollot-Beaut Chorey-lès-Beaune

Medium cherry red with a slightly amber rim. The nose is red and powdery/dusty. Good fat with nice furry tannin and good fruit. A little TCA taint on the palate, but a good bottle would be a very good value wine, both interesting and showing none of the jammy fruit you sometimes find with Chorey

1998 Tollot-Beaut Savigny-lès-Beaune Champs Chevrey

Medium-plus cherry red. Nose is high toned, a lovely raspberry- cherry mix – biased to raspberry, below is a subtle and fading vanilla. The palate is wonderfully smooth, with super acidity, red fruit and a really stand-out length. The silky tannins in this case don’t share the astringency so common in their Côte de Nuits cousins. Excellent – I’ve bought some more.

1997 Tollot-Beaut Savigny-lès-Beaune Champs Chevrey

By on October 31, 2003 #asides

Champ-Chevrey is a 3.6 acre Monopole of Domaine Tollot-Beaut and is actually a climat of the better known 19.5 acre Aux Forneaux on the eastern limit of Savigny. To make life even more interesting, not all of the Aux Forneaux vineyard is 1er Cru! This particular wine has a reasonably deep ruby hue, though is still showing cherry red at the rim. The nose is quite broad with, still, primary black cherry and even a little blueberry. The palate shows an earthy edge, good acidity and there’s also a pleasing creaminess apparent on the finish. Not profound, but very lovely.

2000 Tollot-Beaut Chorey-lès-Beaune

Medium cherry red. Nose is sweet and oaky with difficult to define, though cooked red fruits. Soft, with good acidity and concentration. Sometimes I get a bit of a “bubble-gum” impression with Chorey, but not in this case. Very good for Chorey-les-Beaune.
