Pousse d'Or

2006 Pousse d'Or Corton Clos du Roi

Medium colour. Ripe red fruit is backed by a little darker oak. The fruit gives a slightly roast impression but the structure and the finish are very good. Very good.

Medium, medium-plus colour. Wide aromas of with fine red fruits. Fine tannins with super acidity that leaks flavour into the finish which has a hint of cream – very nice.

Medium colour with some purple reflections. High-toned aromatics are the main theme. Well-mamanaged tannins and a dark, slightly reductive element. The fruit in the mid-palate is lovely before fading into a medium length.

The aromas a quite mineral, but mixed with dark (but not black) cherry. Good, mouth-filling concentration and super acidity. High-toned and very focused fruit in the finish – super!

Medium-plus colour. The nose is a mix of oak and dark fruit elements. There’s plenty of tannin but it’s set against beautiful dark fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Again super.

Medium garnet core with a more mahogany rim. The nose started wide and forward with bloody, earthy tones. Plenty of time in the glass and you settle to a mineral, raisined cranberry expression, very lovely. The palate is much more understated and lithe, still with just a faint ‘jarr’ to the fine tannin. The acidity is good and you’ll find an equally good intensity from the mid-palate into the finish. Could still do with another 3 or so years in the cellar, but no crime to drink now.

Medium, medium-plus ruby-red colour. Bright, ripe red fruit – baked tarts – depth but limited width, the aromas are very persistent. Interesting, concentrated and ripe – there’s some complexity, but the fruit is quite dense, almost monolithic at the core. The length is very good and this is one very smooth wine. It needs plenty of time for complexity, but otherwise this is much more accomplished than the Rugiens.

2002 Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos des 60 Ouvrées

Medium cherry-red. A lovely nose, sweet, wide, incisive red cherry with the merest edge of cream. The palate is very well balanced and has real intensity. There’s sufficient fat and the tannins are sophisticated. Like quite a number of 02’s there’s eventually an edge of bitterness in the finish, but it’s one of reasonable length with, like nose, a touch of cream. A very nice wine.

Deep colour. Equally deep nose of undergrowth, turned-over leaves, black fruit and black olive. Mouth-wrapping tannins, tons of black fruit that gets purer with time in the glass. I think I would have guessed Gevrey. Really interesting.
