Lamy Hubert

1997 Lamy Hubert St.Aubin En Remilly

(Magnum) Medium yellow. The nose is nicely wide and shows more than a touch of brioche. The palate is wide and fresh with particularly good integration of the acidity – plenty of mid-palate density too. Very nice wine whatever the vintage.

Pale yellow. A mix if savoury and sweet plus slowly fading oak that has a hint of toast, eventually sweet fruit that even borders on banana is released. Quite fat in the palate, smooth acidity doing just enough to ‘cut’ the fat to avoid becoming cloying. Really expands on the palate into a super, mineral finish. There is a lot of of wine in the glass – it’s a first-class St.Aubin – I’d drink a few now and then leave a few for 5 years hence.

2004 Lamy Hubert St.Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard

Saved! After the last two corked bottles Olivier came to our rescue. This is a young and slightly unformed wine, light coloured, fresh with a more than a passing nod of oak on the nose – but it slowly fades. The palate is quite linear, again showing some oak, but there are plenty of interesting flavours and a lovely balance. I’m not sure it’s all that concentrated, but it’s very tasty and was very-much enjoyed.

2001 Lamy Hubert St.Aubin Les Castets

A bright medium, medium-plus cherry-red colour. The nose is a mix of both red and black cherry skins, quite high tones with a few estery traces. The palate is fresh and intense, sour-cherry is the main theme. Long but rather austere. It’s clean, very balanced, no real angles but anyway somehow tart – that sour-cherry thing again. One of those wines that dovetails with food but is somewhat harder without – leave another three years before revisiting.

1997 Lamy Hubert Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes La Goujonne

Medium ruby – all the way to the rim. The nose is of cooking cherries and raspberries. Deep fruit on the palate – slightly cooked. Still quite some tannin and good acidity. This wine is very fresh and perhaps a little chunky with a medium finish. Still showing in a very young fashion. Nice wine and worth leaving another 2 or 3 years.

1999 Lamy Hubert St.Aubin Clos de la Chatenière

More subtle nose than the Chablis, the oak is less obvious and there are white flowers against a faintly citrus background. The more mineral palate is wide and quite powerful, though can’t compete with the richness of the Chablis. Lovely acidity and very long too, almost a caramel ending. Very good.
