Boisset Jean-Claude

2006 Boisset Jean-Claude Morey St.Denis Monts Luisants Blanc

One of the rarer bottlings by JCBoisset winemaker Gregory Patriat – a single barrel, 295 bottles. Pale lemon yellow. A nose of creamy oak and bright pineapple fruit that slowly fades. Well textured and with perfect acidity. The flavours are ripe – not too much so – and tasty, but far from simple, I even imageine (perhaps) a little aniseed and coconut. Slowly fades. A super wine, and a fine buy.

Medium-plus cherry red. The nose is soft and heavy with cherry-red fruit accented by faint white pepper. Fills your mouth with ripe red fruit that widens in the mid-palate and takes on a slightly savoury element. The acidity is perfectly balanced, lingering in the mouthwatering finish. Understated concentration and intensity. Very primary though accomplished and tasty.

50 year-old vines in the south of the appellation, raised in 20% new oak. The nose is wide and high-toned with an underscore of pineapple. Wow – explodes in the mouth! It’s not amazingly long, but it’s very attractive and shows excellent value.
