Travels in Burgundy 2015

an autumnal impression today…

Whilst I covered plenty of the côtes again today, it was at a little more leisurely pace – just three appointments, though the first was well over 2 hours – so perhaps that was just as well!

It was looking just a little more Autumnal today…

taxing appointments

No that’s not François Hollande’s new ruse!

I started in the south, and slowly worked north today. Vigneron(ne)s in Chassagne, then Beaune, then the Hautes Còtes de Nuits then Gevrey. 12°C and a lovely light again today, until about 4pm when the cloud was in the ascendant.

All is dry, even my jog tonight, though trying to juggle/fit/squeeze over 70 producer appointments plus half a dozen larger tastings into my Oct/Nov/Dec schedule is more mentally taxing than 7km of running in 30 mins – of that I can assure you 😉

both côtes, in the dry…

Cool, certainly, but no rain or snow today. I’ve visited a dozen or-so producers today and have had great discussions – you can see a few pics here – up to mid-week -but now it’s the weekend!

One view today in Fixin (below), the rest taken between Santenay and Chassagne.

la première neige…

No we are not in Val d’Isère today, but at 8am it was 3°C and raining in the Beaune, but in the Hautes Côtes, there were reports of snow-flakes – later I saw the pictures from Marsannay too. It would have been kind of cool to get a pic of golden and red leaved vines with snowflakes – but I had an appointment, so…

Just one visit this morning so I’m keeping the fingers warm by typing this afternoon, but Meursault was a little different to the last two days…

PS: A good interview by Laurent – in French – but use Google translate if you like…

there’s a chill wind…

At 10am it was cooler today; 12°C. By the time I came out of my late-afternoon appointment (6pm) it was 5°C! Hmm, an extra layer AND long pants for tonight’s jog!

Here are just a few 6.15pm or-so pics between Aloxe and Savigny – with some sections of vines now clearly starting to lose their leaves – I expect that the cold weather will exacerbate that. It will be a shame to lose such vineyard colour, but every day is different – and that’s even cooler than the weather!
