Claudie on 2019:
2019 was easier, there was less*! In this vintage there’s an aspect of maturity through concentration (the dry wind) – the acidity is still there – but it wasn’t like that in 2018.
*Practicaly 1000 barrels in 2018, still much more red than white, more than 80 appellations are represented.

Claudie on 2018:
2018 was a long year, but the results are good. It started quite bizarrely – the vines started so slowly that we thought it would be the end of October for harvesting. We had so much rain but then the weather changed and the vines grew at a pace that we’ve rarely seen – and we had an early vintage – drôle! Then we worried about the dryness as so much rain was followed by so little – really nothing. But still no real deficits and with important degrees of sugar.

The wines…

I’m usually a fan of the wines from this producer. In 2018 I could, of-course, have tasted at an in-opportune time, however, many wines seem on the dark and riper side, so lacked a little energy and interest on this day.

Lots of things were assembled at the time of my visit, but not yet bottled.

2018 St.Romain
A mix of grapes and must purchases, ready to bottle. From Combe Bazin
A modest freshness, faint,y floral and mineral. Supple, even a little rich. But with a super burst of finishing flavour.

2018 Santenay 1er Clos Tavannes Blanc
Hmm, a sweetness, a modest floral too – very attractive. Extra sweetness and better energy on the palate, super elegant and long finishing. Lovely wine.

2018 Ladoix 1er Grechons Blanc
A more narrow and vertical nose. Fuller, more dimension, a great finish too – extra muscle, I’d rather drink the previous but this has more dimension of flavour today.

2018 Meursault 1er Les Cras
‘Previous vintages were a battle – this is south-facing, but this vintage – what happened?’
Hmm, some depth of aroma here. A more Meursault style of depth to this flavour, of layers, floral. Long too. That’s delicious!

2018 Meursault 1er Poruzots
Mineral, warming, layered, a little oak, complex, very tasty – indeed, yet another tasty Poruzozs in 2018.

2018 Corton-Charlemagne
Part domaine.
A more compact nose, though there’s still a fine, interesting complexity. Supple, easy, a certain richness, nice length. A bit easy though.

2018 Montrachet
Really a small nose today. Good drive, and a layered impression to the flavour, a presence, some richness. Not showing greatness today.

Les Rouges:
Traditionally no whole clusters here – so no change! Remoissenet even have some Fleurie for the first time:

2018 Bourgogne Côte d’Or ‘Remparts
Bottled
Hmm, nice depth and energy, good structure, this is a super Bourgogne!

All the following still in barrel:

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Aux Guettes
Very old vines
Here is a lovely vibrancy of aroma. Driving, fresh, layered flavour, no herb – certainly very ripe in the middle, cassis-style, but fine balance.

2018 Santenay 1er Gravières
A more mineral, practically graphite freshness. Big, mouth-filling but fresh wine. Long – this is excellent.

2018 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Les Vergelesses
Deeper, almost but never actually reductive. Sleek, energetic, some richness too. Ooh, that’s rather good. Wide, interesting and deliciously complex – excellent wine.

2018 Beaune 1er Teurons
Domaine ex-Germain – 2 hectares – bought in 2012 and then for years there was hardly any crop!
Faintly floral, not a big nose, but it’s an inviting one, becoming floral too. Bright, fresh, lovely attack. This is quite ripe in the middle and the finish, but the start is lovely…

2018 Beaune 1er Grèves
Vibrant, darkly ripe fruit, also floral – a great nose. Big in the mouth, complex, good energy, depth, a little tannin, long too. I much prefer this, today, from these two Beaunes. Very good.

2018 Vosne-Romanée
2 parcels, domaine, Jacquines and Dessus la Rivière
That’s a bright nose, more floral/spice style. A little gas, very perfumed, very sweet but a great finish! Excellent!

2018 Chambolle 1er Aux Echanges
Hmm, this is rather pretty, not big but attractively Chambolle. Nice drive, lovely energy. A relatively rare but lovely Chambolle for 2018

2018 Nuits St.Georges 1er Damodes
A more modest volume of aroma. Big, energetic and mouth-filling. More tannin for sure, but ultra-fine grained. A good mineral finish – slightly warm though. A good, if mixed, presentation

2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Suchots
Deep ripe and concentrated nose but with some elegance. Big, concentrated, but good depth of flavour of course – ripe but alive, not my favourite, but no faults and very long.

2018 Domaine Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cazetiers
Hmm, a vertical nose floral above and with super depth below. Sweet, wide, layered, there is some structure behind, actually very long. Again a bit bulky and ripe for me but this has some super parts.

2018 Charmes-Chambertin
Domaine and very old vines, some almost 95 years old.
Here the nose is very ripe. Full, rich, some freshness, good fruit but also the first wine I’m directly thinking is a little alcoholic. A shame, as it a great vintage for Charmes, but this wine is only showing warm fruit though.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
