I visited on a hot day and the team had much work in the vines – Benoit generously offered to taste 6 wines from their range that now extends to 16 different cuvées. Of course, I accepted 🙂

The wines:

A quick tour but some excellent wines from the more than dependable Jérôme and his team…

All the domaine’s 2020s were bottled in December:

2020 Bourgogne Aligoté Alligotay
The old spelling of the variety. Soil is granite here – so more floral
Hmm, it’s true – a more floral style for the aromas here – nice. Almost a little petrol style in the first impression but then it’s gone, becoming zesty then saline.

2020 Bouzeron Les Clous
East and south, mid-slope – here is the most limestone of Bouzeron.
A more direct, mineral nose, accented with citrus. More mouth-filling energy and so much complexity, almost a little agrume/grapefruit style and lots of salinity – that’s a great wine.

2020 Marsannay Champs Perdrix Blanc
Highest altitude vines here. Marne blanche soil. Some chardonnay rose and pinot blanc in this mix – the vine selections coming from Roulot and Pataille
A deeper, much riper fruit, never over-ripe. Fuller, more mouth-filling, still tons of energy – simply more generous to start. Super acidity here in the finish – a big, tasty, wine.

Les Reds:

2020 Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée Antonin
Grapes from Gevrey, Brochon, the bottom of Chambolle and Vosne – close to Retraits too. Sulfur only later in elevage.
Dark, precise fruit, slightly peppery. Broad, lots of fresh energy, the peppery tannin has a little grain showing. Lovely wine…

2020 Marsannay, Combe de Pré
Very sandy towards the top of this parcel..
Silky, wide, dark cherry flavour. Mouth-filling – open, airy, plenty of energy again – still dark fruited and with a burst of fresh finishing flavour. Slowly fading. That’s another very lovely wine…

2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Billard
The first red had no stems, this and the last 15%. Here the stems are visible but in a nicely perfumed style. Broad, perfumed flavour, a little tannic dryness and really wonderful dimensions of flavour. The structure suggests waiting 2 or 3 years but the flavour energy is really super here. Simply excellent wine but you should have patience.
