Two UK gentlemen addressing the concierge of a Beaune hotel:
“We have a tasting visit booked for tomorrow morning at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. We wonder if you could call them on our behalf to cancel the tasting. Please tell them that we are sorry but that we have to drive to Saint-Émilion…”
Of course, the concierge had to then deal with all the other waiting people who told him not to cancel the tasting and that they would go in their place 🙂

There is one response to “overheard in a hotel lobby, yesterday morning…”
More proof of my theory that morons are everywhere. I find the sense of entitlement particularly disturbing. Flaking out on an appointment is bad enough, but not even having the common sense to call yourself and apologize, is just mind-boggling to me. The fact that we are talking about the most prestigious domaine in the region -indeed even the country- makes it all the more difficult to stomach! Most wine lovers would give their left arm to have the chance! My thoughts go out to the poor concierge…
