A melange of quite forward red and black fruit notes – gives a soft impression. After the Latricières the tannin seems more grainy, though it’s not particularly astringent. Pretty wine – or maybe I should rather say ‘Charming’.

2004 Potel Nicolas Charmes-Chambertin
Depth, lovely depth on this nose, everything just edged with coffee before high-tones start to evolved. Sneaky concentration – this really grows in the mouth. Versus all the other wines here this was a little anonymous, everything in it’s place but competent rather than excellent – I loved the nose though…
2002 Potel Nicolas Charmes-Chambertin
Medium-plus cherry-red. Some depth to the fruit on the nose and a low-key meaty note – surprising for such a juvenile. Intense cherry cordial on the palate with balanced acidity and tannins that show just a little rasp at the end.. A one-dimensional but long finish. Very easy to drink and given the balance and intensity you could lose this in the cellar for 10 years – no problem.
