Jadot Louis

1997 Jadot Louis Bourgogne

Medium ruby-red. After a few young wines this comes with a real breath of interest, secondary, tertiary, a little volatility, and behind some baked raisin fruit. The acidity is almost good though shows slightly harsh in the finish. Apart from that harsh last flick from the acidity this has a nice texture, no tannin and an interesting depth to both the fruit and finish, unfortunately no mid-palate to speak of. Quite nice but drink-up time.

Medium, medium-plus cherry-red. The nose unfortunately has just a trace of taint to complement meaty, spicy, stewing fruits. It’s a shame, this wine is rather silky and the fruit is quite intense – another bottle should be good.

No replacement 98’s so here’s the 99. Also quite golden in colour. The nose is deep, still showing a trace of wood, slightly creamy with a dense honeysuckle note. Gradually becomes more butterscotch. Smooth, slightly waxy and honied palate with good acidity and medium length. For me, despite no real faults the overall impression is a little heavy. Still it has good intensity and is already very tasty.

1999 Jadot Louis Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots

Medium-plus colour without much fading. The nose starts high-toned with powdery red fruit, becomes a little smokey with coffee overtones. The palate has excellent intensity to the fruit with good, slightly grainy tannin and good acidity. This is a very good wine that still shows quite a lot of oak effect on the palate but will be very fine.

1999 Jadot Louis Beaune

Medium, medium-plus cherry-red. The nose has deep and inviting red fruit with still a little ashy oak showing. In the mouth there’s good volume and forward but smooth acidity that continues to sparkle on the finish easily longer than 30 seconds. The tannins are well hidden and like the nose there’s still some oak showing, particularly on the finish. Very good villages but it would be best to wait for another 2 or 3 years for the next bottle.

1999 Jadot Louis Chambolle-Musigny les Feusselottes

By on October 31, 2004 #asides

Most 1999’s drink great today, but if you want to drink this wine now, take a decanter! For 90 minutes the nose of this wine was only about wood-spice. Given time there is a superb soaring red nose. The palate seems also to lose a little graininess with aeration but retains a little astringency to the tannins. Excellent acidity and a finish that is long but currently one dimensional. Not a shy and retiring Chambolle – indeed quite muscular – but this should be a super bottle in the future.

1999 Jadot Louis Gevrey-Chambertin Les Poissenots

By on October 31, 2004 #asides

Medium colour with a trace purple. Good nose, only faint earth but there’s black chocolate-dipped cherry fruit. Starts understated, but despite not showing great density the palate is fresh and intense and shows a really sneaky, creamy length. With aeration this wine just gets better and better. The antithesis of blockbuster Burgundy, but I’d love a few more in the cellar.

1998 Jadot Louis Beaune

A deep ruby core with just a trace of amber towards the rim. The nose is meaty and at the same time high toned – latent traces of oak too. A sweet palate, though the svelte tannins show in quite a dry fashion they are quite in balance. A medium length, tasty and pleasing wine. Like most of Jadot’s wines this will benefit from further storage, but an hour in a decanter is all you need with this one.
