 Pic taken at the weekend…

There’s more than a touch of theatre to the (work in progress) new cuverie of JC Boisset in Nuits St.Georges. It’s not going to be ready for this year’s harvest – but that’s probably just as well given the low yields in 2016 – Can’t you hear the obvious conversation that would ensue?

“Why did we make is so big?”

a little weekend imagery…

The mid-afternoon heat was quite oppressive this weekend – about 37°C’s worth – but the views were good!

walking in aloxe and pernand this weekend

By billn on July 26, 2016 #travel pics#travels in burgundy 2016

Actually not a bad temperature for walking last weekend. The storms forecast for Thursday evening never came, but there were deluges of water on Friday morning – it was literally as black as night at 09h15! I assume the treatments in the vines of previous days were completely washed away.

Cloudy but comfortable walking with 22-26°C for most of the time.

weekend walking in burgundy:

It was a perfect weekend for walking, getting a little hotter each day. For the first time this year, there is more ‘definition’ in the vineyards as the vines are trimmed and more regimented – I love this time of year!

more (or less) flowers…

Beaune 1er Bas du Teurons on Friday.

We’re still not into what I’d call mid-flowering here in the Côte d’Or.

Although there have been flowers here and there all over the Côte d’Or, particularly in the perfectly located grand crus, but it’s easy to see that virtually nothing was flowering in most of Savigny over the weekend. Looking at the frosted vineyards – which is the majority of Savigny – I counted about 10 clusters per 10 vines – pre-flowering of-course.

I did a short tour in Beaune on Friday too – there’s more flowering here, but still less than a third of the clusters were flowering. Still we had a nice sunny afternoon on Sunday and Monday/Tuesday look like nice weather – much should be underway by then – I expect!

A few pics from my wanderings mainly in Savigny, Friday-Sunday:

beaune’s clouds – pretty but dangerous

A beautiful start to the day here in Beaune – with particularly pretty clouds too – but they hide approaching danger; by 12h00, as you can see (above), they are turning darker.

There’s a weather warning for violent storms in the départment of the Côte d’Or today – most of the worst weather looks like it is north of Dijon, but let’s see…
[EDIT] Beaune stayed dry today – but Fixin had very heavy rain – fortunaltely none of that ‘frozen rain.’
