Christine on 2016:
“In Pernand we lost about 75% – and about 45% for the domaine as a whole. But I’m very happy with the quality, but really it’s just too small a volume in white”

The wines…

Whites in bottle since just before harvest, only bourgogne rouge so far in reds. The reds here are really not the simple, easy wines of many addresses; they are really detailed and not overly sweet. They often beg a little cellar time, but they will benefit from it. A super address in 2014.

2015 Pernand-Vergelesses
2015 was about 1/3 less volume due to the heat, the grapes looked good but there was no juice.
Fresh, modest but interesting and fresh. Wide in the mouth and with a fine density, a mineral, reductive Pernand style – a little hard but yum!

2015 Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétile
A little more lift to this nose. Bigger volume, but a halo of fine freshness, again a mineral impression. This is very delicious after the more modest nose.

2015 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Clos Berthet
A more mineral, slightly reductive nose with good freshness and a lively growing intensity. Hmm a lovely finishing line of flavour here. Excellent like every year, but the Sous Frétile is to drink today, maybe this next week!

2015 Corton-Charlemagne
Hmm, nice freshness, deep and beautiful focused lemon fruit. Ultra-wide, but mineral and slowly melting flavour, almost a caramel in the finish. Delicious, fine definition. Classic wine for here – I’ve never regretted a bottle of this!

Les Rouges…
More structured wines than I usually note here, but with tons of freshness and great fruit. Keepers! Not easy early drinking as many vintages are here.

2015 Pernand-Vergelesses
Three parcels, one, les Fichots is 1er cru
Hmm, wide and fresh red fruit. Some structure here, a super intensity, really tasty and some minerality, needs time but super.

2015 Pommard
Trois Follots and En Beouf
Hmm, a hint of reduction but it’s floral and interesting too. Greet texture, nice depth of flavour. Lots of flavour here. Structured but not scarily-so. Tasty wine.

2015 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Ile des Vergelesses
A relatively tight nose. In the mouth there’s good volume and it’s very juicy – still plenty of acidity and structure – a fresh and intense wine. Mineral, complex and very long. Really another wine to wait for but an impressive one!

2015 Pommard 1er Les Epenots
Fresh, delicate and precise fruit notes, hmm, lots of structure, but gorgeous flavour. Finishing with a little tannin. A keeper, and a very good one!

2015 Corton-Bressandes
A modest intensity nose but fine depth all the same. More width and energy on the palate though plenty of structure – a little dark chocolate in the finish. Super long.

2014 Corton Clos du Roi
Also tight but with a faint floral note. Big in the mouth, with more dimension of flavour – in all directions! – sweetness of mouth-watering fruit, long, long, long. Easily the best wine, but also most certainly to wait for. Very yum!
