Tasted 25th March 2010 in Nuits St.Georges:

J. Moreau et Fils:
2008 J. Moreau, Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
Intense, sweet, slightly dark fruit. Super minerality and broad, well-defined acidity – A very nice start
2007 J. Moreau, Chablis 1er Mont de Milieu
Fine, more subtle aromas than the Vaucoupin. A super minerality/acidity balance. I really have the impression of some dry extract. Long and a very impressive 1er Cru!
2007 J. Moreau, Chablis Valmur
The aromas have a slightly biscuity impression. Again super acidity/minerality balance but this time with a little executive grand cru padding. Plenty of concentration. This is intense and very impressive.
Ropiteau Frères:
2008 Ropiteau Frères, Bourgogne Blanc
A little oak toast mingles with the high tones. There’s a small burst of interest in the mouth, but this is essentially a little flat. Okay…
2008 Ropiteau Frères, Meursault Les Rougeots
Cool, reserved, ripe fruits on the nose. In the mouth there’s lots of energy, acidity and a good width. This is a very much better wine than the Bourgogne.
2008 Ropiteau Frères, Meursault 1er Les Perrières
Slightly soft but very good aromas of high-toned green-skinned fruits. Another wine that has very good energy and width. The finely detailed flavours really linger. Lots of dry extract. This is really very good.
2008 Ropiteau Frères, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Champ Gain
Smells a little understated after the two Meursaults but is fine all the same. More concentration, less exuberance. A very nice insinuation of flavour in the mid-palate. Very good!
2006 Ropiteau Frères, Meursault 1er Genevrières
Warm ripe fruit against a deeper oak note. This is fat but has decent balance – though it’s disadvantaged following the 2008s. Very well put together and understatedly concentrated.
2007 Ropiteau Frères, Meursault 1er Les Charmes
High tones and fresh fruit aromas. After Perrières 2008, this is more linear and wiry. There is a little more barrel flavour too. Good.
Domaine de la Vougeraie:
2007 Vougeraie, Pommard les Petits Noizons
The nose is a width of dark red fruits. Full, velvety palate – plenty of structure, but just enough sap and plenty of acidity. Quite long. Good wine – moving from a glass of Beaujolais my wife fell in love with this!
2007 Vougeraie, Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles
The dark fruit aroma is edged with earth and oak. After the Pommard there is more fruit dimension and grainier tannin. Long finishing this is pretty good.
2007 Vougeraie, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Bel Air
High-tones of fresh red berries. Softer tannin, hence, nicer texture than the Evocelles though I slightly prefer the mid-palate dimension of that wine. Overall, however, this is the more complete wine.
2007 Vougeraie, Clos de Vougeot
Floral notes over a dark, fresh cherry base. Sweet and silky – plush without being fat. There’s plenty of structure though it’s mainly buried. Good energy too. Very good.
2007 Vougeraie, Vougeot Clos du Prieuré Blanc
There is width but not too much density to the aromas. Ripe and a little fat. This is good but doesn’t get the pulse racing.
2007 Vougeraie, Vougeot 1er Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot
There is both depth and concentration to the nose. In the mouth there is a width of ripe fruit that is suffused by mineral flavours and real dimensions of complexity as it heads into, and onto the finish. Hmm – I’m in love for the first time today!
Jean-Claude Boisset:
2007 JC Boisset, Fixin Blanc
10% pinot blanc in the mix. There’s a width of tasty fruit here – and some extract too. A ‘small wine’ after the Clos Blanc de Vougeot, but a good wine.
2008 JC Boisset, St.Aubin 1er En Remilly
Harvested quite late and just 2 weeks in bottle. High-toned aromas. Quite full-bodied, but it seems reasonably balanced. Very good intensity in the mid palate and also its fruit-led finish – bravo!
2008 JC Boisset, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er La Dominode
From a plot originally planted in 1901 – just 3 barrels. A little spice and herb complexity to the dark nose. The tannin is fine and just a little sticky. A dark, pure, intense and quite wiry personality before it heads into the long fresh finish. Always first class this wine…
2008 JC Boisset, Beaune 1er Les Bressandes
An impressive depth of pure red fruit on the nose – a 2008 rarity! Like the Dominode there’s plenty of structure, but it’s balanced by precise dark red berry fruit. Long, very fine and pure.
2008 JC Boisset, Gevrey-Chambertin Jeunes Rois
Pretty, high-toned aromas of precise dark red fruits. There is grainy tannin but on a relatively low level. Cool, fresh fruit – overall very understated but confident.
2008 JC Boisset, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Charmes
A very pretty nose of soft, smooth red/black fruit. In the mouth there’s a width of very pretty fruit with decent mid-palate dimension. Long – lingering on perfect, mouth-watering acidity. Super.
