Jérôme Galeyrand – 2012

Update 10.1.2021(27.4.2014)billn

DSC03210Tasted with Jerome Galeyrand in Gevrey, 04 March 2014.

Galeyrand on prices: “Well, there was the cost of implementing ‘Bio’, the reduced yields and the high quality. So definitely an increase. Likely 10-20% but I’m not ready to decide as I’m neither selling nor allocating, yet.”.

The wines:

2012 Marsannay
There is 0.5 hectares of vines for this cuvée, but two barrels were lost to mildew and another 2 to the wild boars!
Medium-plus colour. Deep, dark cherry nose is very inviting. A touch of CO2 but a lovely width and depth of flavour.

2012 Côte de Nuits Villages
The Galeyrand Côte de Nuits Villages comes from 2 parcels of vines, one in Comblanchien (vines planted in 1925 and 1932) and the other from Brochon (vines from 1947). The elevage of these two parcels is separate, and they are assembled only before bottling. Jerome says the power comes from Brochon, and the finesse from Comblanchien.
Medium-plus colour. More mineral and complex nose that has a lovely focus. There’s too much gas here today, but the width and concentration is super.

2012 Fixin
From two neighbouring parcels, will be bottled next week.
Actually I find this a little too fizzy to be definitive, but the flavour is not as wide but followers a longer, narrower line into the finish.

2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Billard
Lovely, lovely aromatic depth here. Plenty of structure, intensity and power. Super flavour, and I love the length here. Very yum!

2011 Marsannay
The nose has good depth, warmth and roundness. Round in the mouth too with plenty of sweet fruit. Very friendly. Faint P

2011 Fixin Champs de Charmes
Medium, medium-plus colour. A hint of cedar with a fine focus of red fruit. Lovely in the mouth; after the Marsannay there’s a little more texture and certainly more muscle. Faint P

2011 Gevrey-Chambertin En Billard
Medium, medium-plus colour – it looks rather purposeful! Faint P aroma but there’s good fruit too. Fine width, round in shape. This is more seriously tailored than the previous 2011s, and I love the lingering, finishing flavour…

2011 Gevrey-Chambertin En Croisettes
A perfumed glass from the whole clusters. There’s a little of that flavour too – good wine. Indeed, very good wine. Long finishing too – yum.

2010 Gevrey-Chambertin En Billard
Medium, medium-plus colour. There’s a beautiful focus of red berries here – baked red-fruited tarts too. Lovely width in the mouth with a growing intensity too. It’s a super line of flavour in the mid-palate, pushed by perfect acidity. Just really super!
2010 Gevrey-Chambertin En Croisettes
A more focused and more impressive aromatic but essentially the bigger brother of the 2011. Lithe, muscular and perfectly defined. A wonderful mid-palate flavour. Unmissable Gevrey villages!
