A visit with guests. We toured his domaine and tasted a range of older wines – “I hope you will learn more about the wines and Meursault like this, than tasting just young wines” he said.

The wines…

2009 Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes
From the lieu-dits of Millerandes and Pellans in the commune of Meursault.
A lovely wide nose, some freshness and a depth of fruit too. A little lush on the palate, nicely textured, then a super persistence of really concentrated flavour… Yum!

2007 Meursault
Fresh and wide, lovely, layered wine. This seems not from an obviously acidic vintage, though the acidity does increase a little in the mid-palate. I find that the nose becomes ever more classic. Really a top wine!
2004 Auxey-Duresses
A little fireworks on the nose – a fresh depth too. Beautiful texture, very silky indeed, beautifully intense, flavours too. I like this almost as much as the 07!

1998 Meursault Chevaliers
A very floral wine – plenty of honey notes too. Very silky texture, fat, lots of volume in the mouth, a honey style here, like the nose, a hint of toast too. Very long with some quince fruit in the finish. Less delicious, perhaps, but super-interesting wine – and tasty enough to savour!

And for the fun:

2007 Vendanges Tardive
There was plenty of yield in 2007, so Jean-Philippe left one cluster of grapes per vine when harvesting, returning for them 3 weeks later…
Lots of quince fruit, a hint reductive. Fresh, with a big burst of flavour and a really a great finish. Dry, complex, mineral and mouth-watering. Not exactly my style of wine, but no-doubt, a super wine!

Merci Jean-Philippe!
