2018 is the commercial vintage at the domaine right now, so Marie-Laure wanted to concentrate on that one.

Marie-Laure on the recent vintages:
2019 and 2020 brought us very low volumes, I’d go as far as to say that here we were close to the limit; it was nearly half a harvest in 2020 and towards Meursault it was worse – such very small grapes. The 2020 reds were close to 14° even 14.5° in some cases. As for the 2018s, we had long cuvaisons but practically no pigeage, just one remontage per day. I find many similarities to 2015 in this vintage, I think it so tasty and already very drinkable…

The wines…

All the vines are very different and I like that here. What I also like is the combination of structure/rigour and delicious flavour – some of these wines are excellent for the vintage.

2018 Bourgogne (Red)
That’s really perfumed. A structural wine but in a really nicely shaped way – I like this. There’s a faint hardness but nothing that another 12 months in the cellar won’t soften. Really a nicely juicy finish. That’s a super starting point

2018 Pernand-Vergelesses
From Les Noirets, low yield old vines. ‘2018 was great for the maturity here.’
That’s a lovely nose; direct, soft red fruit and quite a strawberry impression. Direct in the mouth too, silkier than the Bourgogne, growing with energy and delicious fruit. A nice structure again – that’s a delicious wine that I’d drink already despite its proper structure.

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune
A floral perfume that resembles the Bourgogne. Fresh and direct – lots of energy here – finely red-fruited. Structural finishing but with great almost chewy flavour – yum!

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Serrignyssime
The three parcels of old vines 75-85 years old.
Extra colour. More width and freshness to this nose – higher-toned. Plenty of freshness the tannin has almost no grain. The flavour is great – wide and tasty – and that’s a super finish. Excellent Savigny with a decent whack of acidity to see things along…

2018 Meursault Rouge
An airy nose – open but with less direct impact. Mouth-filling – plenty of tannin here that brings a drag to the texture but it’s not grainy – just a modest dryness today. Still a juicy, darker-fruited wine. Less finesse than the previous Savigny but joyously full of flavour.

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Les Peuillets
Deeper colour. Darker fruited, almost textural aroma – that’s impressive though a little tighter than previous wines. Wide, lovely mouth-watering growing intensity, a compact tightness yet still more of everything. A wine to wait a little for but one that’s showing at least a very good potential…

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er La Dominode
Not so deep but with a finesse to the width of fine perfume – that’s a lovely invitation. More mobile. More supple. A younger shape to the structure – here is a wine to be patient with – yet – the depth of flavour is simply excellent and involving. The finish – super-impressive. That’s a great finish from an excellent wine.

2018 Monthelie 1er Sur la Velle
Ooh – that’s a great perfume – deeper red and almost cushioned. Mouth-filling, a little more complex but still quite structural – the tannin more than suggesting patience but the almost juicy finishing flavours are really engaging.

2018 Volnay 1er Mitans
Less width of aroma but more vibration to the aroma. A softer style but no less freshness of acidity, floral-infused flavours, the tannin structure more controlled and less over than the Monthelie – long cherry-stone finishing. That’s very good.

Les Whites:

2018 Bourgogne Blanc
Grapes from here in Savigny and also from Meursault
A ripe but fresh yellow fruited nose. Round a little honey a sizzle of acidity, actually a very nice finish – tasty here – it’s the best part with even a little minerality showing through.

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc
Three parcels blended together
Oh yes, that’s more like it – a freshness and purity of aroma – lovely. Mineral, pure, mobile with a good energy. I like this very much – very impressive Savigny blanc. Deliciously finishing.

2018 Ladoix Blanc
Very frosted this year – ‘an area that’s a little fragile’ says Marie-Laure
Almost a gooseberry and cream nose – very inviting and totally apart from the Savigny. Nice shape in the mouth and with plenty of minerality too – a flavour that’s almost more floral than fruit – certainly an elegant wine – and a very good one too. Only in the finish can you see a little oak today. Super!

2018 Meursault
Clous and Moulin Landins.
Some vibrancy to this aroma – elegance to but it’s far from forceful today. That’s got a lovely texture and a saline minerality that goes long, even finishing a little caramelized. A very good wine – I might not guess Meursault though.
