Meursault Gouttes d'Or

2010 Mikulski François Meursault Gouttes d'Or

Less deep aromas than the Meix Cheveaux but finer and wider with a little crystallized ginger. This wine just bursts with life; the intensity is such that it’s hard to keep in your mouth as it urges you to swallow. Brilliant!

A super width of caramel inflected, mineral aromas. The texture is lithe rather than fat, quite some minerality too. Excellent acidity and good intensity – long on a mineral note. Yum.

Bottled in March. Ripe fruit aromas with perfectly integrated faint oak and hints of mint leaf. Mouth-filling with an extra edge of fat versus the Charmes. Lovely crystallised lemon fruit on the long finish. Lovely

High-toned and perhaps a shade diffuse, but really lovely fruit underpins it – super. Rich but balanced and is full of mid-palate dimension. Nice length and lovely – again.

The nose is understated but shows a subtle width. In the mouth there is also a nice width and lovely complexity – this is very fine – and no fat! Very, very lovely.

2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault Gouttes d'Or

Given my preference for the fresh and mineral plus 2005’s rather rich expression I was preparing to dislike this bottle – but I was rather surprised: The nose is waxy, wide and concentrated – smells lovely. There’s almost an oily concentration on the palate but with a surprisingly wonderful balance. This is a really lovely wine that shows super length. I could get to like this – really!

Golden colour. High-toned nose initially hints at oxidation but blows off to reveal quite exotic, ripe fruit. The palate has nice, clean, citrussy fruit and some minerality. A quality wine of good length.

Slightly more new oak than the Genevrières. Nose is fairly subdued with faint toast. Sweet palate is a little more buttery, perhaps honey too. Not obviously oaky. Nice acidity with reasonable length. A very nice wine.
