2004 Long-Depaquit Chablis

By on February 28, 2006 #asides

Pale to medium yellow with and edge of green. The nose fresh, hints at floral notes over a little citrus – a good start. Some minerality, lovely acidity and an interesting length. Full marks at this price-point and it could easily be drunk now.

A young looking medium-pale yellow. The nose initially borders on the exotic with a little added caramel. Given time the nose becomes purer, still sweet, with nice high tones and shades of green-skinned apples. I’d describe the palate as rather mute and one dimensional following the Denis Mortet Bourgogne Blanc, but given the sweetness of the Mortet perhaps that was no surprise. Time shows a well concentrated finish and good-enough acidity though I would have preferred more. Almost good, but not on my re-purchase list.

2002 Colombier Chablis

No wood used in production. Open high-toned nose with faint citrus. Good fat and surprising depth and length for the price. Perhaps I’d like a hint more acidity, but there’s good minerality and an even better price!

Pale gold. The nose has good depth set against higher fruit notes. The palate showing medium density and good lemony acidity. Steely and nicely balanced – this seems very good value at ~12 Euro.

Pale golden. Nose is a little waxy with melon and pear, just a trace of oxidation too. Nice fat palate but with a touch of oxidation here too. The acidity is pretty good and overall this is not a bad drink. If the oxidation note is typical I’d say drink these up this summer.
